@@smurfyday no the line is a reference to the trope of pouting because someone didnt give you a gift (even tho her reaction is normal, not critisizing it at all), that it's like a spoiled kid pouting because they didn't get what they want. (Think veruca salt from Charlie and the chocolate factory; "Daddy, I want a pony!" In an angry tone, stomping foot etc. Even after her dad had given her endless material possessions) I really don't think there was intentions of anything sexual here, especially as it was only the first season and at that point in the show none of the producers really wanted to lean into the romance between the two because it was just too early on.

@@smurfyday To be fair, they weren't completely overt in their affections. You kinda almost felt they were forced together by the end. But I understand why he didn't; because the first 5 years are about avenging his family and has to do that before he can close the chapter and begin a new family.

Teresa seems much more relaxed with her whole team now than in the show's first few episodes. I know that doylist logic probably just means the writers and actors were finding their footing, but I'd like to think the watsonian reason is that the show starts around the point that Jane, after five years recovering and four under Lisbon's care, has finally reached a point of normality and emotional equilibrium. He is still traumatized, but also strong, determined, and protected. Because he is finally in a safe state of mind, he is attached, cheerful, and attentive towards Lisbon. The only time Teresa is really happy--and I mean really lights up--is because of Patrick. He feels safe, and his gratitude makes *her* feel safe, and suddenly her whole team has become not just her responsibility but her family. Jane playing the parent by buying her a pony is just a hint of the role he is heading for in her life--not as friend, teammate, brother, or even her father, but a father figure to pair with the mother figure she has become. They are moving towards a romantic union, and were from the start.

I don’t feel like Patrick was referring to himself when he said “daddy.” That’s just a saying, more like is she upset about something she never got from her childhood. Since he’s closing his eyes, he must be guessing their gifts based on what he knows about their personalities and previous observations about them. She references the pony again in Season 7, but they don’t talk about what happened to the pony!!! It would have been cool if the pony lived with them at their new land/cabin home.

But what I said was he called out his guess after the unwrapping--not after he looked. First, let's keep in mind that this is fiction. Someone wrote a script, and the actors followed it. But in real life--that is, in a real-life mentalist stage performance--this guessing after the thing is unwrapped can make all the difference. The mentalist may use any number of ways to know what the object is once it is visible and known to others present. Saying what it is before it is visually revealed to others may require completely different tactics.
