99% of people think of a Circle inside a Triangle or a Triangle inside a Circle, that is how the trick works, it's not Rocket Science, 50% chance of getting it in the first guess and 99% chance of getting it in two guesses, that is why he ruled out squares, most people when you ask about shapes, the first 3 things that everyone thinks of are Squares, Circles and Triangles

To the men watching, when women tell you that you're acting creepy, and you can't understand why, scenes like this are why. It was beyond inappropriate for Jane to do that at a funeral. Far too few comments call that out. This is supposed to be a cute funny scene. But not to women who are paying attention. This was really creepy.
@Tracker9472 ай бұрын
Eh... it's a lot more complicated than that. If he had been wrong, it would have been creepy. But he judged correctly. The real problem here is that most people who are bold enough to try something like this are also stupid enough to completely misread and misjudge the situation they're putting the people around them in to. In essence, it's something that would only really work with any sort of reliability in a story. Which this is. This also wasn't meant to be cute or funny. Jane is being genuine here. He has genuine affection for the daughter because of his own deceased child, and he has empathy for the mother because he knows what it's like to lose a spouse. And when there's a murderer involved, he absolutely would not allow them to be killed.

@@Tracker947 approaching that woman and offering help because he thinks that other man is pressuring her in some way is fine. Taking her hand, calling her beautiful in an attempt to create a connection to win a bet... At a funeral for her loved one... Is beyond inappropriate. If he was being genuine, he would have put her comfort above his own amusement, and not attempted to flatter her and become overly familiar at a flipping funeral. That would have been showing empathy. Helping without pushing himself on her. This should not have to be explained to you. That is also creepy.
@Tracker9472 ай бұрын
@crystalcole888 Normally, you'd be right. But he does the comment and the handshake for multiple reasons, one of which is to illicit a response from the dude that has been hovering over her and presumably threatening/intimidating her the whole funeral. Yanno, it's really weird and inappropriate to hover around and scare a widow at her husband's funeral. This should not have to be explained to you, it should just be obvious. /s
@crystalcole8882 ай бұрын
@@Tracker947 he saw that he was threatening and intimidating her the whole funeral. Eliciting a response from him was not necessary. He could have easily pulled her aside, explained who he was, and offered her help. If he did what he did in real life, The woman would have had him thrown out, and not taken his offer of help seriously because of his creepy behavior. So you just explained back to me what I should not have had to explain to you....sarcastically? Wow, you sure told me /s........
@Tracker9472 ай бұрын
@crystalcole888 "If this was real life" Boom, said it all right there, bravo 👏 it's just a really dramatized version for the sake of entertainment. Also, you didn't negate my point, you just accepted that the other weirdo's behavior was arguably just as "creepy" (arguably a lot creepier) but dismissed it because... why?

This scene is so emotional and beautiful without even saying much. Janes face when the girl runs to her parents. Walking off. Smelling the orange. I think hes thinking over what lisbon said, ans reaizing there are things he values even more thrn killing RJ. The music is perfect. Great direction and acting.

I think in a way this shows Lisbon in an almost...naive fashion. Not in a bad way, just...she doesn't understand that bone deep need to make that one person suffer. That some days it's the only thing getting you out of bed and pasting on that mask. That you...can't differentiate between the you that was and the you that is.

One of the things about the Mentalist were bits like this, everyone in the comments is bringing up how much of a kind person Van Pelt is and she always was. But a real person isn't always like that, they're going to have bad days, they're going to have sensitive subjects and they're going to have moments when the dam breaks and all that bile comes spewing out on someone. Jane saw her disturbed attitude towards the Seance and he poked her for a reaction, because part of her reaction with Rigsby is due to their sexual tension and he wants them to admit their feelings, get together and be happy, he didn't realise that this was the wrong situation to poke her with. And Van Pelt broke on this issue and her anger came out in an instant on Jane. Quiet and kind people are the ones who have the ability to be the single most devastatingly cruel and evil people the world has ever seen, they're the ones who are able to tell when someone's hurting and why then help them, but they can see that weakness in a moment of their own and use it to utterly destroy the person. The realisation 5 seconds after she said it and the additional 2 to build up courage to apologise is a masterclass of directing, writing and acting because everyone involved here did a perfect job in portraying a real event that can happen in the real world.
