This year we’ve asked Janes Means - our gift wrapping style expert - to share some of the best gift wrapping techniques that she’s learned over her 20 year career. Having provided her luxury gift wrapping services for some of the highest class clients you could find (including the Queen!), Jane knows every trick in the book to create simply stunning gift wrapped presents.
In this video Jane shows us how to wrap a book. Now we doubt many of you have trouble when it comes to wrapping this simple shape, but wait until you see the beautiful pleating that Jane creates to give her gift that spectacular finish. It only takes a couple of minutes and will give your presents that festive wow-factor with minimal effort. Try it out for yourself and prepare to never wrap a book the same way again.

She didn't explain how to cut the paper to size. Why is this always missing in every video? It's like cooking shows where they don't say what number medium low is, and how long to cook for.

No one does. I’ve just wasted a bunch of paper screwing that up. Every other thing she said was obvious. Choosing the correct size paper isn’t as easy as you would think. Why doesn’t anyone say,“ “ so much larger then the books height and width. I’ll never understand why important details are never included. Are these videos funded by wrapping paper companies?

I really like this method because it's simple enough to pull off while providing a nice result. However, my biggest gripe is that my wrapping paper isn't perfectly flat like the one used in the video. And that makes everything harder, if not impossible. Am I supposed to find unrolled wrapping paper somehere? Or otherwise how do I straighten it out, because I doubt setting some weights on it is gonna do it right even if I had weeks or months to spare for it :/

If this was a Japanese video it would have showed how to size the paper to fit the object with minimal or no waste, the pleats wouldn't have needed tape to hold them in place, and the ribbon would've been measured precisely using an intuitive measure without a ruler or anything so you don't need to cut off and waste so much expensive ribbon, it would've required one piece of ribbon And it would show how to tie a ribbon into a bow rather than the camera cutting awkwardly so many times so you can't see what's happening. But it wasn't.

This is one of the worst things I've ever seen. First of all, WH Smith, you've spelled the lady's name wrong. Her name is "Jane", not "Janes". I mean come on, how can you get this so pathetically wrong? Second, there are no measurements in this video. "I've pre-cut my paper into a nice strip." Really? Have you actually paused to think about how humans work? Do you not think it would be helpful to inform us of the required dimensions of the paper strip? This video is terrible. It could be good. But everything about it is terrible, because you haven't stopped to think for like one millisecond. Please try harder, WH Smith.
