When she said my magic power would be to reduce the population, I thought of Ghandi's quote, and sure enough paradoxically, she stated it. The magic power should instead be, the ability do us as humans, to learn how to spread the bounty of earth to each of it's children. It is very capable of caring for all of us, but money and greed stand in the way.

There is no need to kill people (reducing the number of people). How egotistical and selfish of this 80-year old to want to deprive others of living when she has lived this long and wants to use the earth's resources to live even more. Why should she live and not others? What makes her better or more deserving of life?

@@missadele6851 Well...we already hv 7.5 billion ppl on the planet! most scientists agree ~2 billion is the carrying cap of humans... with respect to all other sentient beings. You know I already decided Not to hv kids! Having one kid is a lifetime of carbon emissions! And if your kids have kids that multiple generations... On avg they generally run 20-35miles per day!! And thats just one animal... with habitat destruction, human sprawl and hunting/trapping, animals have less and less areas to survive. What does "distribute riches" mean? Make everyone poor, together? We need a sustainable society and environment. And that means stopping population growth and reversing it. It will take too long in the undeveloped world to go from 6 children to 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 over several generations like it did in the West. Because of the geometric expansion of population growth, both Ethiopia (which had famine in the 1980s) and Afghanistan (which had a war with the Soviet Union in the 1970s to '80s) have since doubled their populations. We need to leapfrog the "natural" pattern and figure out how to get from 6 to 2 in one generation; (in no particular order): 1. Children need medical care, sanitation and nutrition so we can be sure they will survive to adulthood, which wasn't the case in the 19th century. 2. Economic opportunities for men and women to improve their standard of living. 3. Education for girls and women so they don't marry and have children as teenagers, but go on to have careers. 4. Reproductive rights (birth control, abortion). Once Ireland did that their economy improved and their birth rate went down. 5. Retirement benefits. Traditionally parents relied upon a son and daughter-in-law to care for them in old age, so that put pressure to have a lot of children, particularly boys, so at least one would survive.

There are too many people on the planet as seen by environmental destruction. People used to think food would be a factor to keep our numbers in check, like for wild animals that die in winter. Thanos was an idiot. If he removed half of all animal life, well bacteria would just bounce back, with exponential growth. And animals like mice reproduce geometrically so they'd be back shortly, too. While endangered animals and plants might go extinct. If he only removed life capable of technology then even those people could reproduce and double their numbers in a generation. The intelligent life with technology or at least science should be able to recognize the problem and find a solution. It's a social problem. We don't want to solve it, partly because of religion, taboo, race, and class. The rich could solve society's problems, but they believe in the Economics model of continued growth on an infinite Earth. And perhaps they are "imperialist colonizers" exploiting the poor and undeveloped countries' natural resources.

that's not correct. she wants to reduce the number of people on the planet without causing any pain, not by forcing people to not having kids, but even china isn't really doing that anymore. she's talking about "magical powers" so it's quite hard to put her goals for humanity in action.

We need a society where people understand that they can get what they want out of life without increasing population. And that means five things starting with women's reproductive rights, female education and rights and opportunities in the workplace to improve the standard of living. People have to believe their children will survive to adulthood and in most places fatal childhood diseases have been eliminating. Governments need to support retirement benefits like Social Security so people won't be pressured to have lots of sons so at least one will survive to take care of them (or rather his wife will) in their old age.

@sandal_thong86318 ай бұрын
If she didn't say it was the rich and greedy here, then she did in another video. It's the poor people she said will grow up and when there's no opportunity to inherit the family farm or increase production through their labor on the farm, (or economic opportunity elsewhere) they cut down the forests and destroy wildlife and the environment. People said Ethiopia was bad during the famine in the 1980s but it didn't even blip on the graph those years, despite them reportedly losing 2 million. Their population growth dipped below 1% in 1980, but jumped back almost 4% before the famine before falling to under 3% during 1983-4. Geometric population growth means the dead were quickly replaced, with the population going from 39 million in 1984 to 126 million last year with growth being over 3% during the 1990s and above 2% after that.
