Janelle Monae is a LADY. Classy, articulate, upright - she is a crown jewel. First off... can we talk about how she slayed in this outfit?! That lipstick! Those earrings! That hat! The whole look was so simple but powerful. And when you hear her speak, it just magnifies who she is as a person. That's the type of role model that girls need. She does things by her own measure and doesn't allow the industry to tarnish the core of who she is. Love that McKynzie got a chance to meet her and that McKynzie sees her as a positive influence. Beautiful story all around.

god im such a crybaby but this really puts me on the spot. Role models for little black and Brown girls are SO important. I was born in 95 and grew up with lots and lots of great artists on childrens Tv with them all black castsit was a very big part of my life. Even Queen's and other black womens movies had a real big impact in my life and mind. And today that Same representation that I enjoyed is been cut to less that half but I am thankful for all of these amazing black women showing their excellence to world that are from the music industry and who I look up to and adore like Janelle. All inspiring and heartfelt. That's what we need in this world. I am glad that the mom spoke about her and her husband having core values that they teach their daughter, because in the end, it starts at home how you engage in the world. Her mom was gracious enough to accept her daughter's feelings of choosing an artist, a humble one at that, to emulate and not be offended or hurt that it wasn't her the daughter chose. Still in all, she chose someone that reflected the message her parents instilled in her to believe in herself. Awesome. I am not ashamed to say, I cried when watching this. That was deep. Amazing....simply amazing!

Love Janelle so much, but the girl and her parents seemed like great role models in their own right. The night I met Janelle after her first ever UK show was one of the best experiences of my life, but she came across as a lot more guarded then. Omgosh her mother's freckles! Whenever I see a woman with freckles I get so jealous. They never have to wear makeup. I've always wanted freckles when I was a kid and now as an adult I still want them. I've seen women with freckles who always wear makeup to cover them up, and I have to let them know that they should never cover their freckles. Freckles are so frigging awesome.
