xz claire She said that she's experimenting with new sounds. As an artist she's not locked to only sell a certain type of records. You can't blame someone for trying to reach a different audience cause those people that she's able to reach with her new song will listen to her other stuff and many will like what she's about. Her songs don't need to have a deeper meaning to it and you can't say someone is a sellout just by going off of one single.
@xzclaire9 жыл бұрын
Angel Herrera ? lol it doesn't have to have a deeper meaning, shes playing the game she just wants money and fame otherwise you would stick to your roots and make music that actually shows some form of talent, anyone could make a song like her new single.. i guarantee everyone will forget her new song within like a month whereas a song like this will be stuck in peoples heads for ages! i cba debating about this

She doesn't mean demonic messages. Prolly has something to do with a minority group of people who have been demonized and repressed because people refuse to understand and respect their cultural norms. The majority want them to conform to their societies standards, but they are trying to hold on to all of their cultural norms without falling into the norms of the majority; hence the word "tight rope'(tight rope representing how hard it is to keep their culture without being influenced or falling into the majorities standards. I tried.

Me and my mother still listen to this song to this day. Every morning I say "Mom can you play tightrope?" The first time I said it once again ever in my life, she was surprised that I remembered it from when I was 3 years old. She played it and said "You use to dance to this when you were little!" Tightrope is the best. 👌

HOT!!! SMOKING FUCKING HOT!!! EVERYTHING: the Music, the symbolisms of the moves, the Moves themselves, the concept of the vid, the beauty of everyone in the vid- EVERYTHING! RN/Orderly cracks me up... those glasses, and that expression. Love to watch this vid, and always floored by the fact that someone has brought these moves from Black History into a new generation. Job well done, Madam Monáe, and all who assisted, and/or participated in the making of this piece.

John Lee Not gonna say I hate or even dislike the song, but the part from big boi was pretty frigging bad and really dates the song with references to stuff like macbooks, the dow, and the nasdaq as well as the line "like a thong in an asscrack." Just general bad lyrics can really take you out of the song especially in the context of the album because his lines completely break the fourth wall. I bet the song would be practically perfect if she wrote all his lines lol.

im revisiting this in 2024. this album came out the same year I graduated high school. I was 17 and grew up in a private school bubble. This song was the single so of course everyone knew it. but I didn't listen to the rest of her album. in 2011 I heard J Coles mixtape Friday night lights where he sampled the very beautiful Neon Valley Street. I obsessed over that song, but I still didn't listen to the rest of the album. I actually kinda of lost track of Janelle and it was only this year when the YT algorithm recommended an interview of hers on her newest album The Age of Pleasure. Now I am going back in time and listening to all of her albums. I love to see her growth and progression through her life. She is unapologetic, beautiful, talented and drop AF, sexy, and I love seeing this from 2010 and seeing how far she has come. such an inspiration. I will definitely be raising my daughter up on Janelle's music.

Excellent observation! I see them and Dorothy from Wizard of Oz and Grace Jones An artist lives life, absorbs all the influences and then feeds it out in her work That's what makes Janelle Monae sought after by David Letterman, the White House and Prince

This is one of the greatest music videos of all time. It contains EVERYTHING and works on a hundred levels! Songwriting, instrumentals, vocals, choreography, physical performance, cinematography, editing, acting, decor and costume, overt and subtle symbolism, piercing social commentary.... everything, and it's all high art. Everything she does is great, but this was and still is a landmark.
