Acrylic paint can only be diluted with water by 20%....polymers will break down and in time flake off. People need to do their homework.

You can, however, dilute acrylics to a thin, inky consistency if you intend painting in a watercolour style on watercolour paper. This is because the watery paint sinks into the fibres of the paper, rather than sitting and drying on the surface of a canvas or wood panel.

+Huggie 12 not necessarily. It depends on location & availability of supplies. Shipping costs etc.

I think buying a bottle of dylusion ink spray rather than purchasing all of the ingredients and then making a mock up woud be a lot more convenient also its all trial and error as to what shade you get., if its not the exact colour you want its a waste, unless your satifsied a " close enough " shade.

Michelle Regis also acrylic paint can only be diluted 20%. Water breaks down the polymers if you add too much and will flake over time. Best to use pigment, permanent dyes or inks. Can dilute then with 91% alcohol for quicker drying time. You can also use liquid watercolor available at Blick.
