"The Velvet Rope" has been an unsung masterpiece in pop culture over the years. It got all the praise in the world during its time but it's not celebrated enough as it should per the modern scene. It set the tone for a lot of acts to come through and embrace their sexuality and discuss openly about mental illness. So ahead of its time! I would even go as far as to say it was the original "Lemonade" album due to its different production sounds and lyrical themes. People fail to give Ms. Janet J the props she so deservingly should be rewarded with, but of course being a Jackson comes with a price and an unfortunate curse. Just view the waning legacy of her brother Michael who still keeps getting slandered with the mistreatment from the press even after death.

DayvinDazone no. We talk about it , well you do, bc she’s got nothing else going on Hasn’t had a hit in god knows how long
@laracroftvideos4 жыл бұрын
@@michellemckillop2931 Serious question: how do you think you're supposed to get hits when you get banned from certain TV and radio stations? Janet couldn't promote as much as she did before and many of her releases went completely unnoticed hence the lack of hits. It's not that her music got worse - Damita Jo was packed with potential #1 hits, her other albums after that were very ahead of their time - Discipline was among the very first albums before 2010s to explore dance and electropop genres. And even in spite of the bans she still had her albums hit #1 on the charts which just goes to show how powerful her name is as an artist. Some well-established pop singers these days *STRUGGLE* to chart well (e.g. Britney, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne) whereas Janet drops an album and it instantly hits #1 in spite of not having her music on heavy rotation and not having gigantic promo backing her up. That's extremely commendable for a woman of color who got blackballed for two decades because of a wardrobe malfunction.
@michellemckillop29314 жыл бұрын
DayvinDazone first of all, it was not a “ wardrobe malfunction “. Everyone knows it. It was done on purpose. Justin says in the lyrics he’s “ gonna have you naked by the end of this song”. Yeah. I’m sure that’s a coincidence. Incidentally, that is why people stopped liking her. I don’t think even Justin pretended it was an accident bc it obviously wasn’t. Second of all, if you heard her music, it wasn’t banned. Third of all, her music after the Janet album WAS crap. Sorry but true. It happens to the best of them. It happened to Madonna and now pink and Mariah and so on. Their music can’t go on being great forever. It happens. Billy Joel retired bc he said his music wasn’t up to hIS standards anymore. Her control and rhythm nation albums and videos were excellent. The Janet album had some great hits. The velvet rope had together again. And all for you later In was good. Nothing she’s put out since has been any good. Partly why, presumably, she did what she did ( on purpose) at the super bowl. She had a falsie on her nipple. She wasn’t even wearing a bra! But you keep on believing and telling yourself it was an “ accident”. Sure. People don’t like being lied to. Besides, if her newer music was any good, no one would’ve cared. I still don’t care. She had great music. Better than Michael. But times change. That’s all that happened. But I bet you also believe she married that Muslim guy for “ love” and not the billion dollars she’d get after only one year of marriage and a baby. Nice huh! That kid will be so happy when he grows up and hears that. And she literally got divorced precisely after the year was up? ! I guess just another “ coincidence, “ right?.
@michellemckillop29314 жыл бұрын
Even tonya Harding has been “ forgiven”. If Janet produces a hit, people will come back. You said it yourself. Or someone here did. People want to love her again. And who doesn’t want to hear good music,? And I guess you forgot about Ashlee Simpson. All she did was lip sync on SNL ( which they all do) and her career ended that day. Have you heard from her since in the music world? I haven’t. So stop pretending it was just Janet or that it was racist. It wasn’t. If it was, how did she and her family become so famous in the first place?
