carmenjones411 Well actually she was working on her own Dorothy Dandridge biopic. Janet owns the film rights to the book "Everything and Nothing: The Dorothy Dandridge Tragedy" and she had plans of adapting it into a movie. Halle Berry also owned the rights to another Dorothy Dandridge bio and ended up getting her movie made. So it wasn't like Halle and Janet audition for the same role. Janet was working on a separate movie. Whitney Houston also had rights and wanted to do a movie about Dorothy Dandridge as well.

This video came at the time when the top Black actresses were competing for the role of Dorothy Dandridge in her biopic. The ladies in the running were Janet Jackson, Halle Berry, Whitney Houston, and Angela Bassett; this was (in a sense) Janet's audition to play Ms. Dandridge; she definitely had the look and mannerism down. Halle Berry eventually was able to secure the rights to her story and played the icon in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. I say all that to say she was paying homage to the one, the only Dorothy Dandridge, not Marilyn Monroe. What people fail to understand is that Ms. Monroe and Ms. Dandridge knew one another early in their careers and Ms. Monroe cued alot of her mannerism and style from Ms. Dandridge and was able to reach a boarder audience because of her race, but make no mistake about it, this is pure Dorothy-timeless elegance, beauty, and class that make her an unforgettable force; even to this day. She just doesn't get her due because her essence was copied and relied to the world by a white woman. REST IN POWER MS. DANDRIDGE-the original IT girl with more magnetism in one finger than most have in their entire being.

@cattmann2 жыл бұрын
Actually, this is not all facts. Janet was never actualy "in the running" for this role- she was never competing with Whitney or Halle contrary to popular belief. Janet owns the rights to a different version of the Dorothy Dandridge story, it's actually the story that Dorothy wrote herself and Janet has owned those rights for years. It was really just a matter of who got their version made first and it was Halle. Janet technically could still do a movie portraying Dorothy if she wanted to.

Here's the thing, though. While the single wasn't released worldwide (I believe it was only commercially available in Europe), the music video was indeed serviced to stations all over the world. It even played during MTV2's A to Z marathon (in the US), where they played virtually every video on their library. The VHS for Design Of A Decade was released in 1995 and, by that time, this video hadn't been shot yet. Nevertheless, that compilation was re-released on DVD in November of 2001, which means they could've definitely included it on that version; a missed opportunity. 2022 is our year, though, as it has been finally included on Janet's japanese singles compilation (including a DVD of her entire videography). Here's hoping for a domestic release!

But she has 10 Billboard hot 100 #1's 29 Billboard hot 100 Ten 10 hits 16 R&B # 1 singles 27 R&B Top 10 hits 19 Dance Club/Play # 1's She has the most Billboard Hot 200 #1 albums by any African-American female artist. Also she still holds the record for most consecutive Billboard hot 100 Top 10 hits (18) surpassing Madonna's previous record with (17). She is also the only artist in history to produce 7 Top 5 hits from one album including 4 #1's Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814. And my I add she also holds the record for Highest grossing Debut world tour (Rhythm Nation World Tour) Including the most expensive Music video of all time (Scream) with Michael Jackson. Also she at a time has the largest recording contract by any female artist in history (1992 Virgin Records 5 album deal) then renewed in 1998 for 80 million making her at the time the highest paid performer. She also had record breaking first week sales for an album in 1993 with the janet. album. Which has so over 25 million copies worldwide. She's MTV' s first declared ICON. She's one of the MTV generation pioneers. Also hold the record for most wins for Best Choreography in a music video at the MTV Video Music Awards. She is also the Billboard Music Awards most awards artist with 33 wins. And she's the 2nd most awarded female artist of all time. She's also the first African-American female artist to get a #1 single on the Rock Charts with (Black Cat) Runaway is also the first single by a female artist to debut in the Top 10 on the Billboard hot 100. I could go all day but those are some of Janet Jackson's accomplishments.

Old time hollywood style, Janet nothing but happiness for you sweet princess.

I like a lot,the old time Hollywood style and JANET shines in this surreal universe, in black and white, she is perfect there, she could have belonged to that other era, she is perfect in her interpretation of a great star.

This version should have been on the album. A lot better than the album version.

I like the album version better though...It's a bit more sassy

@@brianwilson2243 I agree! The version used in this video had a similar drum beat the R. Kelly Remix of Anytime, Anyplace. The Album version has a more Luther Vandross Slow Jam Appeal Vibe to it
