My wife and I went to The Gaither Homecoming in Fort Myers, Florida about 10 years ago. A lot of the old-timers were alive then. I ran into a couple of Ernie's Signature Sound guys in the bathroom during intermission. I got to hear Janet Pascal live! And when we were living in West Virginia John Starnes came to an old country church and sang for 2 hours, donations only! He brought tapes and song along.

I`ve watched and listened to you sing for thirty years Ms Janet,sometimes I`ll just listen to your cd`s over and over again all night long,when I heard you sing,o for a thousand tongues back in the eightys god touched me then thru your sweet voice,tonight I had channel 828 gospel on directv and your song I love you written in red came on and I lost it,a grown man crying as thats also my favorite song and never hear it.the screen said best of so I`m wondering can you sell me a copy,

"God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (john 3:16) "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23) I hope this song is not saying that God loves everybody and wouldn't send anyone to hell. We must accept God's free gift to obtain eternal life and forgiveness of sins.

That's right, Nancy, and the only way to be saved is obey what all the apostles of Jesus preached, and that is the Acts 2:38 message of repentance, water baptism by complete immersion in the name of Jesus, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tongues.

Yes we must repent, but believing that Jesus really loved us enough to suffer and die for us makes us want to please him because "We love him because He first loved us." (I John 4:19) If you speak to me in another tongue, how do I even know if it is a real language and how will I be edified if I can not understand what you say? At pentecost everyone heard in their own tongue what was being preached and everyone was edified and heard the gospel in their own tongue.This was the purpose of tongues.It seems to me much of so called speaking in tongues today is a source of pride".Look at me I can speak in tongues." It puffs up the speaker in tongues and puts down those who don't speak in tongues. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, "Behold, Are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And howhear we every man in our own tongue,wherein we were born?"( Acts 2:7-8:) "For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." (Ephesians 2:13)

I think you need to study Acts 1&2 in more detail. You are correct in that it can be and is misused by some. But the answer is not disuse. The solution is proper use. I don't think you realize that there are two types of tongues. The tongues in Acts 2 was the sign of Holy Ghost infilling. They did not preach in tongues. They were not talking to other people. It was a prayer language to God. And nobody in Acts was ever saved any other way than obeying Acts 2:38. And that also holds true for today.

I do not really see Jesus being lifted up.in this and yes we do need to repent and be baptized for the remission of sin. Jesus said," I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever: even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him:: But you know Him; for He dwells with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while,and the world sees me no more; but you see me: because I live, you shall live also. At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, andyou are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:16-20) It is this comforter, this Spirit of truth That made Peter so bold as he preached the truth and the way of salvation. The reason They spoke in tongues was to preach this message. Notice in that Peter as preaching to the men of Judaea , and all that were in Jerusalem. In order for Peter to preach to all these men of different languages they had to hear him in their own languages. This I believe as the main reason for speaking in tongues.The comforter, the Spirit of truth is the reason that he spoke with such power..

Nancy Foix I don't see where you get that Peter preached in tongues. It doesn't say that. Those who said they heard their own language in 2:8 were referring to what had just happened in Acts 2: 4, when the disciples spoke in tongues as they received the Holy Ghost. The preaching had not yet taken place. And later in Acts 10, the Holy Ghost was given to Cornelius and his household, and once again it says that when they received it, they spoke in tongues(vv. 44-46). That was the evidence that they had received the same experience as those in Acts 2. Look at ch. 11:15. It says that the experience was the same as the outpouring at the beginning. That's how these Jews knew that the Holy Ghost was also meant for the Gentiles, and tongues was the sign that it was indeed legitimate. You cited John 14:16-20, about the Comforter. Look at v. 26. That Comforter is the Holy Ghost that was poured out in Acts 2, when they spoke in tongues.
