It’s so sad to say, but as long as people have a mask to hide behind (the internet) they will do and say what they want because there will be no major consequences for them. Another reason why I think people get so triggered by her existence: she doesn't make herself smaller, in fact, she takes up space. As a woman who has been indirectly and directly told by society to keep my head low and has taught me (and all of us) to hate myself in order to capitalize out of that and benefit the patriarchy, I always make myself smaller in the presence of others and feel extremely bad when I think I bothered someone (even if that wasn't the case). If you recall back to previous kpop scandals involving female idols (many of them being about dumb stuff), you can tell how most of the the girls either look sad or ashamed on their first public appearance (heads low and all), delete all their socials or even go on a full length hiatus after it. But Wonyoung, even though she is without a doubt the most hated idol at the moment (hated for literally existing because so far she has done nothing wrong that the public knows of), always keeps her head high. Always. She does not look sad, or affected by all the hate she gets (of course that is what she lets us see, no one could ever know how a person actually feels inside). Instead of making herself smaller, she poses, she smiles, she blows kisses, she takes up space and her well deserved center position. She always talks about how much she loves being herself. And that makes people even angrier. It is as if like they wanted to see her cry or hurt and then they'd show a little mercy, but she never breaks in front of the cameras, so they hate her even more for that. Bringing a woman down (a literal teenager in this case but you guys get the point), wanting a woman to suffer for just existing instead of admiring her sense of self worth and the way she carries herself at such a young age... Misogyny. Old and pure misogyny. I am so tired of seeing people on the internet praise and literally melt when a male idol does the same thing, and then call her all sorts of names for doing it, even talking about how much they would like to hit her or even worse. The double standard. It is sad and disgusting.

The person who confessed they enjoyed seeing Wonyoung getting hate because of how they feel about her will always confirm my theory that Jealousy is a VERY bad disease in the Kpop fandom. Funny enough, before Wonyoung had the interview with Lee Youngji & her going semi-viral for saying she didn't care about what others said. People still loved her but I feel like as soon as she said that, people felt she got too big for her shoes & felt the need to put her in her place. Personally, I don't think the source of the dislike is unfounded, not justified though, in a couple of years when she's no longer the IT girl, Wonyoung will mature and grow up, act less cute, less camera conscious, less of all that, so many idols go through that phase where they get hate for fabricating everything for the camera then settling into becoming normal-ish, they even talk about it, I can't imagine anyone being normal after being held on a pedestal their entire existence, not having a normal childhood, teenagehood, it's sad almost, a lot of these famous people are stunted, mental and emotional growth wise,. I don't think humans were built to be famous, but that's a whole other can of worms. Hope she matures into her own unique personality, laugh about the cringe stuff and perhaps take a long break after the dust settles, not take anything to heart and not try to please everyone while thinking everyone is her enemy.

I'm not even a fan of her in particular (though I do like Ive's music and follow them all), but I've also been defending her because I honestly think the way people treat her is too unfair. In my case I'm not her age, what I am is almost 10 years older, so just like Cheryl at the end of the day I see a teenage girl working so hard to be respected in a very hostile industry that, despite being overall successful, is getting an amount of hate she should not be dealing with for basically breathing at this point. Everything she does is scrutinized and vilified like she's some kind of manipulative evil witch instead of a young girl being overly conscious of her own image.

I'm honestly trying to understand where all this insanity comes from and I believe it stems from some stans inability to separate art from artist. Most interactions that stans have with Wonyoung are when she's on stage performing, and her persona is.... I won't lie... hard to watch (same with Leeso). The amount of winks, lip bites, head tilts, hair flips, nose scrunches, eyebrow raises... it gets to a point where it's very uncomfortable to look at. But since I'm an older kpop stan, I understand that these girls are young, they're learning how to put on a good performance, and odds are their company is training them to be THAT "greasy" with the camera. I don't recall Wonyoung ever acting that greasy on camera in Iz*one. Kpop stans then see that greasy, over-acting performance (that sort of aims to "steal" the spotlight) and assume that's who she actually is when she's NOT on camera. Plus add on a massive, stinky pile of jealousy because she's super pretty and successful at such a young age, and you've got a recipe for malicious, unapologetic hatred aimed at her.

As an MC, she's very elegant and poised and you can tell she cares a lot about how she speaks and moves and tries to give the perfect image all the time because she's aware people would judge her. I think it’s time we acknowledge the problematic and shady behavior of Bang Chan’s lives and hold him responsible. I haven't watched the video yet, but Jang Wonyoung is so freaking admirable. She's been in the industry for so long already, faced SO MUCH, and still has so much life left to keep achieving anything she wants. With that being said, I think she's also a very sad example of the toxicity of the industry. It doesn't matter what she does, or what she doesn't do, she gets hate for simply being beautiful and popular. I do think she's too thin, but that's not her fault. She works so hard that I doubt she has time to eat huge meals, let alone the public pressure to always look perfect. Plus she's a supermodel now, and when have they ever been allowed to eat? I sincerely think the best thing for Wonyoung's mental and physical health would be for everyone to LEAVE HER TF ALONE. As someone who's spent years recovering from an ED myself, the only thing that helped me was being left alone. No comments on my food or my body or health. starship and ive are the first ones to reap the benefits of what produce was made for. these companies didn’t send them on there for fun, it was to promote trainees and ultimately the companies upcoming group. ive is popular because of the work yujin and wonyoung put in, and because the non-izone members were likeable enough. especially in eleven era annyeongz were getting invited to shows and radios to promote ive. and guess what?! IT WORKED. despite coming from a medium sized company, they are one of the top 4th gen groups. not only did they get 3 consecutive hits but the non izone members have built stable fanbase for themselves. rei alone has 3 brand deals which is unheard of for a rookie. people don’t realize that the nonizone members have it better than rookie wonyo and yujin in terms of promotion and solo jobs since they’re so obsessed with painting them as victims. it’s just so sad and annoying to see because at this point they’re dismissing their hard work??? gaeul doesn’t get lines there fake outrage, she gets them and suddenly it’s not enough and wonyoung has too many. i have yet to see these kpop fans genuinely praise the non-iz members for their skill without there being some shade attached to it.

I think it also influences a lot that most new fans nowadays are children. Like, literal children 12-16 yr old unsupervised on platforms like twitter or tiktok. They can’t manage or analyze their emotions like adults. If they’re jealous, their brain will do backflips and parkour to proove their hatred and jealousy is valid. If they see an adult fan sh!tting on an idol, they can’t critically analyze if it’s true or not, and most probably will take it as truth and roll with it. This new kpop landscape honestly scares me. Thank you for speaking up about this! I've tried my best reasoning with people around the internet about the Wonyoung hate. Its easier for them to hate on a figurehead instead of the company. They forget that she is just an eighteen year old girl and that she's just like any other idol. They hate that she's popular and are jealous of her success. I've come to the conclusion that K-pop fans just throw around the word "pick-me" without any regard for what it actually means. Like take this for instance. Yuna and Wonyoung were together for and MC thing once iirc. Yuna was dancing around and Wonyoung was just fixing her cue cards. In all the interviews of Wonyoung that I’ve watched she always seemed like such a sweet bubbly person, especially that one with Lee Youngji. However, whenever I see a short/ tiktok of her they often genuinely did make her seem like a bad person, but then when I went to watch the full footage (‘cause you know, never take anything at face value) these clips are most often taken wildly out of context and clipped to paint her in a bad light. I just do not understand how it can bring people satisfaction to maliciously bring somebody else down and spread false perceptions of them just for the sake of clicks and views. It’s incredibly upsetting. Also about her weight, yes, she is most certainly dangerously underweight, but so are other members of IVE too. I’m concerned for all of them, yet you won’t find me commenting about it under every video of theirs. The amount of skinny shaming comments badly disguised as “concern” is disgusting. These girls most definitely know that they’re underweight, they probably even see a doctor regularly; it’s impossible to function with that little sleep and so much excersise and at such a low weight without medical surveillance imo. I absolutely loved this video and as usual, you got everything right. It is so hard for idols to be in their industry alone because of the hard work and unfortunately the exploitation that is so apparent in this industry. On top of that their fans are a bunch of jealous bullies with superiority complexes. The more time passes, the more I believe that Kpop Stans do not deserve these idols (who's job is to entertain these ungrateful people). Anyways on a more positive note, I admire Wonyoung's hard work. She has not stopped since P48, and all of her accomplishments are well deserved. Yujin is so pretty and is a great leader, actually, all the girls in IVE are phenomenal and I am blown away by their accomplishments at such a young age. They are a force to reckoned with.

I think K-pop stans want their idols to be "real people" and act like "real people ", but if they're too real, it's a problem, because he's/she's an idol and he or she should be perfect, it's "their job".
