Another thing I failed to mention in this video is that the app has very poor performance even on a pretty high-end device, at least as of this writing (after a recent update). You can see my sample clips are stuttering, which is how they were recorded. Worse than that, though, there are a *TON* of loading screens, one after every action and multiple layers of confirmation. It's like much of the entire app is re-loading in the background every time you do a single thing.

I do not understand all the attempts to go digital. Lego is not good in apps they've proven that over and over again. They should concentrate on analog stuff, that's where they are good in. I mean, if Iwant the kids to play games on the mobile phone, for 20 bucks I can get them some decent stuff from the app store. But with all the distance learning these days I don't want them to spend even more time on screens for play. The whole idea of VIDIYO is a fail from my POV.

Back in the early '90s, when TLG had the historical Castle and Pirates themes, I said to my sister that they would for sure also make Wild West sets within a few years time, which they eventually did, partly because I saw that Playmobil already had their own Western-oriented theme back then. Later on, I argued with her that TLG would also soon introduce their Classical Antiquity theme (the ancient Greco-Roman world) where they would blend both historical and mythological elements of those eras, BUT it unfortunately never came to fruition and to this very day I still do not know why. I believe that it would have been a smash and also could have been fairly educational if TLG were adding booklets to the sets, akin to the ones in Ideas and Architecture, containing info about the given set's topic, such as description of a historical event, person (AKA historical figure), legend/myth, building, mythical creature/supernatural being, literary epic, Olympian God, and so on, and so forth.

Hey Jang, would you consider making an outdoor shopping strip in JANGCITY? I think that something like a bike store, a cafe, and a clothing store would be cool!

Weird.. but then I never even tried Dimensions or the Hidden Side app. I am SO old:-D I still want Lego to bring out a purple Astronaut and new Classic Space 🤣😂

Some fun looking figures here, but I agree that it’s too expensive and the replay-ability seems low.

The SKU’s should be unique for the blind boxes and you will be able to figure out which one is which once someone has posted them. At least we have been able to use this approach with several blind bags.

Ah man, standing in a shop in the 'kids' toy section, feeling awkward and crinkling the bags 'like a dork' is totally me... Even more so during the pandemic when it just feels wrong to be touching things that you aren't purchasing! I started wearing disposable gloves now to get over it, but this just adds one more barrier to feel those parts through!
@Zenlore64993 жыл бұрын
And I thought it was a weird thing in the first place, I didn’t even look into the pricing. Why so expensive?! You’re one of the biggest toy companies in the world as far as I know, LEGO. I THINK you can afford a quick music license.
@TheRocco963 жыл бұрын
This reminds me of Lego Dimensions. Lots of small sets to collect, you end up spending a lot of money, and then Lego cancels it.

3 reasons, as a parent and AFOL, why I will never buy something like that: 1- I will not provide a temptation to my child to spend time on a smartphone; 2- I will not create an addiction in my child for collecting minifigures that we can't select ourselves; 3- There is NO building concept here, and it's the ONLY reason I would buy LEGO.

I very much agree. I want a few of the blind boxes too! Luckily, I live near a Lego reseller (Atlanta Brick Co.) who will take the opened ones I don’t want and give me store credit.

Blind bags feel like a glorified scam. Even with snake oil you got a bottle of liquor. I just hope this 'partnership' doesn't end up biting Lego in the butt.

Vidiyo is the type of product that writers of The Simpsons would come up with to mock for an episode. Bright eye catching colors, whacky characters, pop music, extortionate price, this is so obviously made by a corporate think-tank to be the “next big thing” for kids. I don’t want to watch it flop, but that’s what’s gonna happen. Printing on the parts is amazing though, such a shame about the price because I’m not paying that much for some 2x2 tiles.

Honestly kind of hope this theme fails. But it probably won't because some people can't help but spend way to much on these CMF blind bag things. But if it does fail I hope Lego takes the lessons of this year to heart. Make more castle stuff like the blacksmith shop that sold out in a day and less niche stuff like Vidiyo. Or heck if you want the app integration at least do it like Hiddenside. I actually bought a few of those sets because they were pretty good despite the app nonsense and the gimmicky stuff.

20 / 5 bucks for random stuff; so if you have bad luck, you'll get the sam stuff over and over while other stuff not at all. Pricey. Obviously, you have to "convince" your friends(' parents) to buy stuff, too, so you can swap beat bits and minifigs. Of course!
