My problem with Lego these days is they use a gazillion small parts to make intricate details, which makes the model look nice but it REALLY drives the price up. tbh, I miss the older sets where you got fewer parts but the model still looked amazing because of clever use of existing elements.

Thank you for your thorough review, and I’m always excited to see these 3in1 city street sets. A couple of years ago you made one of my favourite lego videos ever, where you combined several small builds into a city block. I know you’ve got heaps of content, but if you could consider doing an updated version with some of the sets that have come out since I’d love to see it.

I am so happy you reviewed this set after the new city modular buildings and house sets. Its a good contrast. I like your observations and I am definately going to get this set even if I have a ton of unopened sets already waiting for me. This is in my opinion the best way to start a small Lego town or city. I love the interior details and minifigure selection. Can't wail for the alternative build videos, especially the build with the arch / porch in the middle of the building. Thanks for your excellent reviews.

I am personally a HUGE fan of this set and sets like this. The amazing thing I'm seeing more and more from LEGO are houses and buildings that look very much like the expert series modular building sets but much more scaled down. This means they're so much less expensive and younger people can build them.
@AldenG Жыл бұрын
I agree the depth of the buildings should be extended by one stud. Minifigs sticking out of rooms while occupying them is not a good look.

This would be really great as a facade for a shelf city, enough space out front for road plates and sidewalks.

Thank you for this review. This set reminds me of the Winter Village - Market Street, a lot: it's the same scale, the same "not compatible with the actual CITY/FRiends/HP modular system" and it also figures a music shop.
@splinter8930 Жыл бұрын
I personally don't have much of an issue with the incompatibility with the City sets. Although it sure would have been cool to see, this is a 3-in-1 and therefore isn't designed to be compatible. I agree on the pricing and lack of depth though.

I really like the way they did the brickwork on the bottom level of the hotel with the tan brick pieces and the tan ingots. It gives a really nice brickwork texture. Cute little set, but I, too, was disappointed that it doesn't match the modular 8x16 system of the other new city and friends sets.

I'm glad LEGO decided to keep the 1/3 plates for the base and floors in the creator lineup. The new city 2/3 tall plate system is great for playability but I can't find a use for elsewere. I wish they kept the 1/3 plates for the floors and used the 2/3 only as baseplates.

It seems strange that with the advent of the 8x8 and 8x16 modules, that this one wouldn't have been updated to follow suit. Even if it was created and stowed away for a while, they should have revisited it before launch and brought it up to par with the others. Maybe it's a purposeful decision to keep parity between Creator and the City lines? Seems strange if that's the case...
@KenTails Жыл бұрын
Part of me wants this, but I'm on the fence about this one. On the one hand, it looks like an actual bit of a street, and a nice way to start a little town/city, but on the other hand, each building does seem too thin & lack interior space, and for that the hotel especially kinda feels (looks) like just a facade, like it's a background building in a Universal Studios theme park or something. At least on the video, it might just be due to the all-consuming white void, haha I do want a little town/city street for my lego minifigs and vehicles to cause havoc in, but I'm not sure if this is the right one.

Just my opinion, but I might be one of the few who don’t like that new system in the city sets.🤷♂️ In my opinion they feel empty, too much random spaces, and doesn’t look appealing to me to play with. I like this set better, more detail and spaces that make more sense to me personally (and less empty / lifeless) Again, all just my (probably unpopular) opinion.😁

@dgray3771 Жыл бұрын
I get your gripe with the 8x16 I was looking at it myself too. But then I look at the sets I own from the city line, and the bike paths.... yeah that ain't all that compatible. I wish they made a set of road plates with the bike lanes in it and some corner stuff so you can continue the bike lanes. As for this set I might indeed put the bike lane alongside it. 2 studs wide. It got 2 times 12 wide, a 16x16 wide, and a 18 wide? Basically to make it fit you need 8x8+ a bikepath. That isn't all that bad. If you do the math it comes down to 16+12+12+18=58 16+16+16+10=58 You should then add 6 more to the end of it. So some green + a bikepath. That would do. Anyone can get a 6x6 plate from somewhere.

I think it's a nice looking set and could see my niece and nephew loving it. Too bad the instructions aren't split for multiple builders. I also think the alternate builds should have more depth to contrast with the main build.Then you could choose between completeness or maximizing frontage.

Not matching the standard from city (and friends?) is a real missed opportunity. I presume it was a case of sets being developed within their own silos, and thats a shame, because it could have been an incredible moment of synergy. Oh well, maybe next time

I probably would've prefered this set was split in half, if only to give each of these buildings more depth; this is big and price is fine to a point but the lack of depth hurts this. I say price is fine to a point because this is actually, awkwardly, £5 more costly than the Monkie Kid - City of Lanterns set, the "cut price modular building" set, which is not as long but has significantly more bulk and depth to it, and also adopts the side by side building system layout if you want to use that, albeit loosely. Although that said, that Monkie Kid set isn't sold elsewhere in the UK so discounts are non-existent (unless Lego discounts that set which is unlikely), while this Creator set is more widely available and discounts are guaranteed. No idea what the distribution of Monkie Kid sets are like in the US though.

Thanks for your honest review! But I only feel this set is more a supplementory set with all the cool, but small parts and tiny and narrow facades. i disagree. i think all of the interiors are fine. they get the job done well enough, and dont really need to any bigger. i also think the criticsm of this not being in the City/Friends Modular is a bit odd. this isn't a City/Friends set, it's a Creator set. it'd be like complaining that Ninjago doesn't fit the same modules as Monkie kid or something.

It is so weird LEGO came up with a new system for buildings and then ignored it for this set and used a different one, even if it's a separate theme. And those buildings are WAY too thin. I could see using this for the back portion of a city layout up against a wall, assuming you didn't have any taller buildings in front of it.

I think the depth is perfect and see why they changed things. The thin floors block less light from getting into the interior and are easier to access for putting mini figures into. The three or two stud sidewalk is just enough to suggest a street outside and probably looks good when placed next to the new street pieces. Very much built for play and looks fine for display. I would love to see what three copies of this set can do when combined.

nah man, i"d pay 50. like you can"t do anything with these. if lego wants to make doll houses, they should include some space at all. lego can"t hold a candle to their competitors these days. I think it"s better that way. Saturate the market with companies that do it better, rather than having one large one that can afford being lazy and greedy.
