Paradisa has such an interesting aesthetic and color palette, makes me wish Lego Friends was more like this. Great review as always!

Yeah I feel like Paradisa's colour scheme would be more universal compared to Friends. I know boys can like pink and purple and whatever but I feel like Friends goes too far to the point that adults and a lot of boys wouldn't want Friends sets even though the builds can be really good

@@joevictor53 friend's pallete isn't the issue. If it wasn't for the mini dolls changing the scale of things, friends could just be a city subtheme
@joevictor53
@joevictor53 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSonOfRyan I disagree. The minidolls to divide regular minifigure sets and them but the colour palette will mean they never fit in with city. It really wouldn't make sense to have things in purples, pinks, light blues, yellows sometimes but Friends does it and that would never you go with regular City sets. Like I got the Hot Dog stand from a few years ago and I wanted it for a fairground but I had to switch out purples and pinks with whites and reds to make it look less ridiculous

I like how Paradisa used pastels and not the extremely bright colors Friends uses. Sometimes softer colors make things like a pool look more welcoming and luxurious.

When I was a kid in 1997, I found a '94 or '95 mini catalog under a dresser, from a Lego set I must have gotten in my very early childhood. It was old and ratty, but it had Lego sets in it I had never seen before, and there was no internet like there is today so that was my only source of that information in my life. It had Paradisa, along with Ice Planet 2002, and a host of other discontinued themes and sets that were not only interesting, but also way better than the products that Lego was putting out in the late '90s. It inspired a grand curiosity that follows me to this day, and with this video, Jang is helping me relieve some of that curiosity. This nostalgia, this anemoia, is beautiful.

Hey, one of the sets from my childhood! Should still have all the pieces for it, although mixed together with a bunch of other sets as Lego should be when played with. I think this might be the only set I had from the Paradisa line, a gift from my grandparents if I remember correctly. Being at a very boyish age when I got this I must say in retrospect it was a quite brave move from them to give me this in particular. Paradisa was definitely aimed towards getting girls into Lego and all the sets had that more girly doll house feel and style to them, not least when viewed from a young boys eyes. But I just loved Lego and this set gave me a lot of joy. I have strong memories of putting actual water in that pool!

Whoah, what a sight for sore eyes! When I was a wee lad, one of my older cousins had a huge collection of "vintage" Lego sets, including the entire Paradisa range which we used to play with constantly, in between playing with her rodents and watching badly dubbed cartoons on TV. Her hamsters loved roaming around all the massive baseplates she had, as well as running off with a minifigure every now and then! It's been almost a decade since I last saw her, and I miss her dearly. Oh the times, they used to be so simple and carefree... Thank you Jang and UnavailableSpaceship for re-invoking some of the happiest memories of my childhood.

I bought this set as an adult in 1992 while I was buying my son LEGO for Christmas. I remember being fascinated with the look of the Paradisa line. It immediately grabbed my attention. I've always thought the openness and grandiosity were due to the tropical location of Paradisa. It is grandiose because it is a touristy area. It is open to take advantage of the cool breezes wafting over the area from the sea (perhaps somewhere in the Caribbean?).

i wish they'd bring back those alternate builds. it's part of why i like creator and technic sets. 3 times as much chance a set includes a build you like, and inspiration to change up a set once you've grown bored of the 1st build. it also makes it easier to buy a set just to see if you'll like it. there are times i initially dislike the primary build, so i buy a set for a secondary build but end up liking the primary build anyway.

It would be so cool if you challenged yourself to make a custom house for your city but have to use this baseplate!

My guess is the satin style of ponytail hairpiece is the original texture for these. I first encountered these this year when I got a copy of 6351. This set was a bit before my time, and I was quite mystified at the tactile difference between this first run and the shinier ponytail pieces I always had from the mid to late 90s.

Actually the matte ones appeared later. Some later Paradisa sets and Star wars sets have them.
