Among the extremely talented new generation of 21st century violin virtuosos, Janine Jansen is possibly the most expressive.

Poor woman.. so talented and yet they think how to present her in the best possible way. Just let her play in front of a large audience and that’s enough marketing. She doesn’t need to show her skin, her playing is unbelievable and it’s enough

One of the top violinist . She is direct and full of passion. Brought out the music as how she felt. Some people said Beethoven concerto is meant for those who went through life. I think this complicates music too much. Just enjoy the music as it is and not think too much. I enjoyed her performance very much.

What Maxim Rysanov says (47.45) about Janine Jansens natural qualities, I think also makes her recording of Bach's Partita nr.2 so utterly interesting and outstanding. She can make all the 'voices' in this piece 'talk' to each other and 'sing' together. I've never heard an interpretation that was as rich and at the same time so wonderfully transparant as hers.( I never knew it was such a struggle for her to record it!)
@nout1972 Жыл бұрын
Just a side note. Much of the warmth, expression and texture of the violin tone in this video registration of the Beethoven concerto is lost in the actual disc that came out. I notice this very often, like the producers decide to smooth out, give everything a gloss. Another example that comes to mind was the promotional video registration/rehearsal of Mozart's Mass in C, with William Christie and Patricia Petibon, also on KZbin. The sound of the rehearsal was dynamic, full bodied and textured. The Erato disc of this recording sounds distant and undefined in comparison. Janine's playing has so much more character than the Decca disc finally presented us. That said, great video of an amazing artist.

Indeed a lot of emphasis of the model thing. Being a Dutch man, I see that as a bit odd. She's not unpretty for sure but her beauty comes mostly from the open expression she shows. She doesn't hold back. And that's attractive.
@EduardMoya3 жыл бұрын
I agree! Janine is a very smiling person in that sense, and that outweighs her potential attractiveness. However, the most important thing is that she is a great violinist, regardless of whether she is more or less attractive! Thank you very much for your comment! All the best!

On Beethoven, I am one to agree that it should not just be played too early. I don’t agree that it is maturity that it requires but rather what one has been through in life - the absolute pains, struggles, and triumphs of life. While I have listened to the masters of violin for countless years, being a classical violinist myself with a huge love of the Beethoven concerto, I have never been satisfied completely by their performance of Beethoven. I just don’t see the true experience of life in the playing - I hear beautiful playing, but not life. I’m sorry to say that there is a quality of life that only certain violinists endure and that is what makes a great Beethoven performance - it’s rare. This piece doesn’t necessarily require maturity, they all do, but a certain experience of life that makes this piece what it truly is. I will not give the secret, and Janine is one of my favorite violinists, but she’s missing that essence I want, and so rarely get, from the great violin performers.

There are children that have known more hardship than some fully grown men. I think Beethovens music actually always kept a youthfulness and he always remained a 18-year old at heart, in the way that he made all his (big) emotions feel like the most important thing in the world. The anger impetuois, the sadness inconsolable, which is a very real thing that most adults get rid of because it's not a comfortable life and looked down upon. It's not as much about age as about character. Life-experience certainly plays a part, but then again, that's not about numbers.

And the men planning the magazine where the target audience is women :D I don't get it. I love the Falling for Stradivari -documentary where we actually get to hear her thoughts and approach.
@bennieboi992 ай бұрын
i think that is the secret genius of the documentary.... its kind of a pre "me too" look at how horribly classical female musicans are treated and how their own voices are left to their male producers, musical partners, and critics. she was treated really badly, and i think the documentary does a great job of making all these men look like pigs.

very sympathic film ! thanks ! ... about the beginning passage : Beethovens concerto ... "one of the most delightful works to play" she says trufully - and also to enjoy as listener/audience as well ! (in my opinion even the most beautiful concerto, even others have very beautiful single movements, too: e.g. Mendelssohn 1st 2n movement, Brahms 2nd and 3rd movement, Tchaikovsky 2nd ... and others, but in Beethovens work all 3 movements are extraordinary beautiful ! so it 'wins all comparisons in the end :-) (so far as such works are comparable at all)
