I was at UT Austin in the 60s when she was a beatnik folk singer. She was voted the Ugliest Guy On Campus. She pretended to laugh it off but it hurt.

Growing up in the sixties and seventies was very, very different than today. There was a tremendous amount of turmoil in the world (I realize there is that today as well), but being young and innocent knowing that I had to register for the draft to get shipped off to Vietnam was a horror worse than any movie you can imagine. So as a result, I adopted a devil may care attitude that was also common place with my friends as well. There was no such thing as the internet, and sometimes I had to wait for the Library to open on Monday if I wanted to research something, perhaps about my favorite band. But usually the info I wanted didn't exist, so speculation was the only way to satisfy my lust for knowledge. Drinking and drugging was heavily encouraged by my peers, in fact the more fucked up you were closer to the truth you would get. That's not true obviously, but many believed that then. Stevie Ray Vaughan also believed it, until it nearly killed him. Rehab wasn't common then, and we thought only movie stars would go to "dry out" as the lingo went. I have no regrets about my actions and lifestyle during those somewhat innocent times, and in many ways they were extremely enlightening. Now that I'm older, I reflect fondly on those times, and my memories are rich enough to almost taste. In summary, I think the reason why music was so so creative, inventive, and soulful then was because of the risk taking many artists took. The best weren't motivated by money, but by expression. The ones that stayed true to their beliefs are the ones that consistently are reacted to by the many younger generations today. Thank you for your intuitive reactions, and I can vicariously experience my golden memories through your work!

I was born in 78 and my hey day was the 90s. The world looks completely different to me today too 🥲 I'm extremely lucky to still have my parents and uncle who grew up in the 70s, and my 93 year old grandma who grew up in the 50s even though she was married and had two kids very young (as was usual back then)! Im blessed to have so much history around me and to have my own memories. My husband and I dont have any kids, but theres always someone to pass the information along to...well, whatever I can rememeber that is lol 😉. We have nieces and nephews to share all the old stories with, and we can either back up their parents stories, or tell them stories their parents dont want them to hear (so is the beauty of being the aunt and uncle lol 😁)

@@loribernardisunwell9663 You're two years younger than my baby brother, so you and I grew up the same way! It's a shame that kids today will never know what real fun and real freedom looks like.

Awesome reaction! Janis had many shitty experiences in her life. And she injected those emotions into her music like no other. I feel for her every time I hear her.
