One of the most beautiful human beings-inside and out-that we will ever see, the lovely Janis Joplin. This woman knew more, in her 27 years, about human beings and love...loving others, loving the world, the world itself, than most will ever know in their lifetime. She has such a gentle heart and she sang for us like the wisest, most soulful canary. She passed not because she is ugly, as she is not-we lost Janis because of how ugly others are.

Not just a performer, the very essence and voice of a movement. She's a member of the audience as much as she is the entertainer, at the center of the whole thing. The peace and love rock movement must have been so strong, in the cold war and Vietnam era, to have expressionists like Janice made it a tour de force.

I can hardly listen to Janis without feeling emotional. My mom has always loved her, and I know one day I could very well be listening to it reminiscing about her. My sister died from years of heroin addiction like Janis did. Even looked and dressed kinda like her. And the fact that Janis robbed herself of life so young. It's hard for me not to tear up because of all these things when I listen.
@elizabethcloutman8913 Жыл бұрын
I lost my first-born nephew to addiction in 1977 following an accidental overdose. He was just 19, brilliant and musically talented. My family still wonders what he might have become. I know your family mourns your sister’s lost future, as well. Janis was clearly struggling, for sure. Usually in those days,l 1960s-70s, street drugs were fairly diluted. The story was that Janis was visiting in LA and bought some unusually strong heroin that caused her to overdose. The police reports were that others in the city who passed away who had. bought their stuff from the same dealer. The whole world must wonder what Janis’ future might have been. Heaven forbid it would have included Fentanyl, that has taken so many lives!!!! I’m so sorry for your loss! ❤

@@elizabethcloutman8913 Drugs are for mugs. No excuses, if someone decides to excuse themselves from the gene pool by being stupid enough to OD on drugs then so be it. A lot more great people have died doing noble deeds than consuming substances that they know is going to damage them. These are the people that we should be remembering and celebrating. If you are dumb enough to OD on drugs then maybe that's a sign. A sign that you are not really as great as you think you are. I love her voice and energy but obviously have no intention of placing her on a pedestal because she was thick enough to kill herself with drugs. Now Charles Darwin, there is someone that we can all feel proud of and celebrate.

Janis and I used to sip plum wine together in the office at the Family Dog on the Great Highway back in 1969. I moved to Marin in '70, and used to party at her house up the canyon in Larkspur. I have a poem she wrote where the last line is "After I got what I wanted, found out it cost me my mind." Prophetic. We were all stunned and deeply moved at her passing, but she got into hard drugs, just like Michael Bloomfield. I still miss them both.
