can someone explain how tf he is belaying? 12:19 how he can give a soft catch like that without moving and let her continue descending relatively slowly to the ground.. you can see clearly the speed of the rope going through his hand while lowering.. that would certainly cause burn

uh no the rope would fall from her mouth or her mouth would release it. the human jaw and teeth are incredibly strong and can actually pull very heavy things you should look at some world records. And in the crazy case she keeps her jaw locked on the rope if she’s strong enough she holds herself up via her teeth? unlikely tho

@@yeplsleavemealone3988 It would take some bad luck but it's entirely possible the rope would do some damage during a fall. But they risk smashing their face on the holds every time they climb - it's just one of the things they accept.

Very normal move in lead climbing. Sometimes you need more rope than you can retrieve with one pull from your hand. You only just hold the rope gingerly, you don't "clamp down", so I don't imagine it would pull any teeth out - you'd just release it. But I've actually never personally taken a fall with any rope in my mouth - at least not that I can remember. It would still be about the sketchiest time to take a fall, just because of the sheer length of rope you have out between yourself and the anchor below you, when you are doing that.
