Just found out about Janka Nabey's passing, what a sad news. I remember being in line while boarding a Philadelphia flight (at San Francisco airport) in May 2017 when a tall African gentleman has approached the gate team to clarify something. I couldn't help but notice his artistic appearance complemented by a linen jacket, somewhat long braided hair, and .. gloves. Fast forward 20 minutes and as I move forward along an airplane aisle toward my seat I realize that this gentleman is in my row (window seat). I said Hi and took my aisle seat next to him. He looked cold so I offered my blanket for layers. He looked an me, smiled and said something about his hands seemingly always being cold. He said his name is Janka Nabey. What ensued is an exciting conversation about his music as he was a musician from Sierra Leone, his team of musicians and that I "must" visit Sierra Leone, a place where people live exciting lives; about his son and his wife (now my memory may fail me since it's 2021). Having returned from my business trip I found these videos on youtube and realized how lucky I am for meeting such an extraordinary person, since then I am hooked. I haven't read the youtube comments until today, I was hoping that Janka hasn't contracted COVID-19, but obviously it wouldn't be relevant. Rest in peace.
