It’s funny, when these ads used to come on TV back in the day I was annoyed by them and hated it, now 40+ years later I’m actually seeking them out and watching them deliberately for the nostalgia.

I wish the makers of commercials today had the courage to break away from the pack to produce retro looking AND sounding ads like those of the 70s. Our generation would eat them up. :)

I am glad I was born 1960, I got to watch all the old ads on TV when new, as well as the shows and movies. TV ads were entertaining during 1960s-1980s. Many had jingles, and some told brief storylines. I remember many of the ads. Different deodorants seemed to be advertised alot, as well as gum brands and coffee. I have not seen ads of coffee brands, deodorants, or gum since the 1980s.

Jan. 1978. Star Wars was still huge as was DISCO. Saturday Night Fever was either HUGE or about to be. As was the soundtrack. Billy Joel was either or about to be huge with The Stranger LP. And "Just the Way You Are". Saturday Night Live was huge as well. In another 6 months ..."Grease" opens and dominates the summer box office (and radio) as well as National Lampoon's Animal house. Donna Summer was having hit after hit around this time and so was Abba. Love Boat was on Saturday night . KISS was a thing and a new band called Van Halen was getting a lot of notice.

I have another question, according to TV.com I can't believe the show was preempted many times for ABC Sports and Specials, "Did that ever aggravate any of you fans of this show knowing it would not be on for a few weeks?" what did Dick Clark say in the show when (American Bandstand) was going to be preempted and wouldn't return for a few weeks?
@pannoni8449
@pannoni8449 8 жыл бұрын
I wasn't even born until 1985, but I would had written to ABC to reschedule to Sunday morning (forget Saturday Night because of course the "Fever" was at its height back then!) I would actually have pre-empted some of the cartoons since in those days, the new episodes always aired during September-November or December, followed by reruns during the rest of the year.

Michael, if you ever get any 1980-87 ABC episodes of (American Bandstand), let me know, I would love to watch it originally since it was so horribly edited on (VH1's Best Of American Bandstand), they only aired half hour edited selected episodes from as far as I know from The 60's, 70's, and 80's to 1985, I think June 15,1985 with Bon Jovi was the highest they got up to. I wouldn't mind seeing original Syndicated episodes of (The New American Bandstand) 1987-89 either, as well as The USA Network 1989 version when they had it outside Universal Studios Hollywood.

The reason I want to see The USA Network version is because I want to see if they were still doing Rate A Record, Top Ten, Spotlight Dance, Video Showcase, I don't know why it was taped outside, it should've been inside, outside makes you think of a MTV Spring Break Special from The late 80's.

@Frank Silvers I was born in 1982, so I grew up in the late 80's to the turn of the millennium. It was a great time, but you're right, way too cynical. That's why I was obsessed with the 70's. Too bad KZbin wasn't around. I would of loved watching these old videos
