🌺 Beautiful as always Amy! I think you may have a "clumper" there. More basals will develop too. It just keeps growing and growing! It'll be a tree soon! Lucky you. I will send a picture of a "clumper" that i seen about six months ago in off season blooming. It's gonna snow ❄️ there. Our babies always tell us the best way they can. Jazzy is absolutely adorable! Your orchids are beautiful! You must spend quite a lot of time fertilizing & keeping them dust free. 😊 I hear you live in TN…I too live in Germantown, TN & it gets cold in winter. Do you use grow lights at all?Which natural light is best for most orchids? I have more north, some south & lots of west, too hot outside in summer, & very little east due to small windows. Do you ever have a bad orchid? Your orchids always look so healthy, in bloom & shiny. Thank you.
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! And yes, I really like fertilizing, cleaning, and caring for them in general. I do use grow lights...I just released a video last week about them. It depends on what kind of orchid you're growing as to which natural light exposure is best for them. Phals prefer eastern light and Cattleyas and Dendrobiums prefer western. Happy growing!

Orchid whisperer, need advice. I have 9 orchids in there second bloom, I don’t count the first since i bought them with blooms. All these orchids came in small soft plastic pots. So I knew when the moss needed watering. After they bloomed I repot them. Today I bought a Beautiful deep purple orchids. The Rectangular .ceramic container has 2 orchids. Good shape, and I cleaned the leaves. My problem is these orchids are not in those soft plastic pots. There in moss, just moss. The moss is wet. I know I should wait for the blooms to die off but will the roots try out or will they rot? Should I take the chance and repot ? and hopefully they keep there beautiful blooms. $30.00 for these. Thank you. ♥🙏🏼
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
Hi Judith, you can try to blot the excess water from the moss by putting paper towels directly on the moss. It will act as a sponge and help dry out the moss. I've also repotted once the blooms are all open with no damage to the blooms. Happy growing! 😇⚘🐕
@judithblue31679 ай бұрын
Thank you so much ♥ . Before I could start to dry the moss I removed some moss from the top which was hard to plug out. Then used some paper towels. Finally on Jan. 11, I remove them. Omg you should see how much moss was tightly packed, I mean packed. I had a huge amount on my large foils sheet I had on my counter. One orchids the roots were good, but the other one there were some small black areas, and soft roots. I cut them off. Now both in bark and in proper pots. I use a small one inch cheap paint brush and got the medium off the leaves. Clean leaves. Now there in the window as of yesterday 1-11. No drainage in that ceramic and when I picked it up at Lowe’s it was heavy. Now I know why. Have a beautiful day. Each day is a gift ♥💕 love Judy @@OrchidWhisperer

Maybe seaweed extract could cause those kind of changes in the spikes but I think you stopped using it as a fertilizer. For the denbrobium, is care the same as a cattleya?
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
I was thinking seaweed too, but I haven't used it on this orchid for a few years. It's just a mystery. Den care is different...I'm thinking I need to do a spotlight video on them. That gives me an idea. 😊

When do you fertilize your orchids? I’m fairly new to growing orchids, however, I picked up 4 new orchid plants last year and would like to learn how to get them to rebloom.
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
Hi Mary! I use MSU orchid fertilizer. Since you're fairly new to growing them, you can start out at about half the amount they recommend, especially since it's winter. They don't feed as much in cold weather. Happy growing! Amy 😇⚘

Question about sogo vivien. Do you keep her under LED lights? I know miniatures are handled a little differently, so I wondered. Thanks,Amy.

Hi Lenore! I don't have Sogo Vivien under lights. She's in an eastern facing window in my sunroom and gets plenty of sunlight there. Have a blessed day! :) Amy

So what made you decide some grows in spaghnum moss and some in barks? I am new to growing orchids so your information is very appreciated 🙏🏼😊
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
Hi! When I first started growing orchids, I grew them in bark. That's a great place to start. Then, when you gain experience, you can branch out. Moss is awesome, but I've found it's sometines more difficult for new growers. 😇🙏⚘
@nonikhall9 ай бұрын
@@OrchidWhisperer May you tell me why they found it more difficult to grow them in moss? I live in Ny and i repotted some in moss thinking it would be easier because then i dont have to water them often
@OrchidWhisperer9 ай бұрын
@@nonikhall as long as you know how to water in moss...mainly not to overwater it...you'll do fine. 😇
