@OrchidWhisperer6 күн бұрын
Hi Trudie! The mini orchids require slightly different care than the large ones do. The number one killer of mini phals is overwatering them. It happened to me when I first started growing them, and I finally figured out that I was watering them too much. Now I watch the roots, and don't water until they turn silver. Happy growing! :)

Amy, thank you thank you thank for this video. I have decided to place four of my smaller orchids in the moss/bark sandwich. Mainly because my collection has grown too large to just do bark. So I have listened to this video several times to learn how to water correctly. Going longer between waterings makes it easier and using the little cup makes it also easier. I have Mason ball jar rims (I do a lot of cannning) in my ceramic pots to lift the plastic pots above any water on the bottom. I’ve got my Tumnia in bark so I’ve gotten use to bark now, which previously overwatering was my problem. So I’ll see how it goes with the orchids in the moss sandwich. I followed your video carefully. Your knowledge is so important to us in your orchid family. You are a blessing beyond words.

Hi Lenore! You leave the best comments! How sweet of you to say. :) You will like the moss/bark sandwich. It requires so much less time and water. So far, all my Phals that have been in bark only for many years have adjusted to the moss and bark just fine. (That's a relief!) You have your orchids in a great setup so they drain well...that's a smart move. I hope they do beautifully for you. Have a great day, my friend! :)

Hi Amy , I have read a lot information on how to make Easter cacti bloom and all of them said to change the temperature and give it 14 to 16 hours of darkness for at least 12 weeks . I leave in Indiana and my garage gets really cold, below 40 and temps in the house are 68-72. I was really upset that I won’t be able to get my cacti bloom , but seeing your video gives me hope. So to make sure I understand it right , you didn’t do temperature change and withheld light , right ? Also you gave your cacti about an oz of water starting November 1st once a week ?
@OrchidWhisperer9 күн бұрын
@@user-kx2dc8vc2whi ! The idea is to get a shrivel in the leaves between minor waterings. Light and temperature change aren't the issue with Easter cacti. I have a playlist about Easter cactus care that gives an overview of the whole process of what I did. And it bloomed beautifully. Unfortunately, the articles I read didn't help much, it was the help of my viewers that I followed that caused it to bloom. Happy growing and I hope yours blooms! 😇🌸

Hi Amy. Your video was really great. Very informative and helpful. I have 9 Tolumnia’s. 7 are highbreds and two are species. My species are on tree fern mounts, the others are in self watering pots so they never dry out. They are in western window and under grow lights. I’m glad you mentioned 12 hours of light. I was going to reduce the light as the day light grows shorter,but I’ll keep it at 12 like you said. They are fun orchids to grow and don’t take up too much space. Thanks and be blessed. 😇🥰💐🙏🏻
@OrchidWhisperer12 күн бұрын
Hi Shirley! Thanks so much for saying that...and for sharing how you grow them. So you have all your hybrids in self watering pots, that's a great idea. I'm going to have to start bottom watering some of my larger ones...it's getting hard to water around them correctly. I do keep them under 12 hours of LED lights all year long, same as my species Phals. I keep my Thanksgiving cacti in the sunroom and the Tolumnias in the house so that the 12 hours of light doesn't confuse the cacti. I believe the cacti need more than 12 hours of total darkness to induce blooming. Have a great weekend, sweet friend! :)
