I know this video is 8 yrs ago, but I’m trying full water culture & lost some roots when I took it out for 2 days, 5 days in water, 2 out. Will it hurt to leave in water all the time & just change the water every few days? I don’t put much water in the bottom, just enough for some roots to be in it. Also, can I do the same with dendrobiums even through winter months because of their winter rest? Thank you for your help! Sharon, Germantown, TN

@@SharonBarden hi 👋 Sharon! Water culture is a difficult growing method. There's a lot of guesswork. I have a plsylist with lots of info that will help you. I only have 1 Vanda in water culture right now, and I did a video a few months ago detailing how I do that. It might work with a Phal as well. I don't recommend water culture for Dens...mine didn't like it at all. Thanks for watching and have a great day! 😇
@SharonBarden16 күн бұрын
@ 👍🏼 I’ll watch your playlist. And yes, I have already noticed that water culture doesn’t seem to be for every orchid. I’m also using water culture to grow roots on rootless orchids, I have 2. Was covering them, not now. I just didn’t want to use things like garlic, banana water, rice water, etc. even though I’ve seen videos with good results. Thanks again!
@OrchidWhisperer16 күн бұрын
@SharonBarden you're really wise not to use the click bait video recipes. They cause lots of trouble...molds, bacteria, insect issues to name a few. Keep me posted, and have a great day! 😇🌸

@OrchidWhisperer Hey Amy, I am a new subscriber of yours from the Country in the UK and I find your ‘Big Red’ Christmas cacti videos enlightening and much better than a houseplant manual! When it comes to propagating in the Spring you can actually wrap just: 1x clade (leaf) in a piece of kitchen roll, spray it with water, place it into a small zip bag, then place it in bright, indirect light and when the kitchen roll is dry spray it again until strong roots develop - to me this is easy, cost effective and failsafe! Also Christmas and Easter cactus are prone to Aphid attacks as well sadly.

Oh my goodness , that Thanksgiving cactus is so beautiful ! You mentioned that it was growing slowly on the one part of the plant where the light doesn't reach . Do you rotate your plant when the buds are not forming ?
@OrchidWhisperer20 күн бұрын
@@nickimcivor9410 thanks so much! I only rotate it when I have to...it's too big to rotate often. It weighs about 100 pounds. That's an issue with a gigantic one like Big Red. Happy New Year! 😇🎉🌸

I need help with this Christmas cactus. If feels soft and of course you can see it’s droopy and not healthy. Water? No water? I’ve tried both. Thank you so much
@OrchidWhisperer21 күн бұрын
@@user-tl5kl3ti9d I would take cuttings from any part of the plant that's healthy for a start-over. Keep the plant moist, not wet, and don't let it stand in water or it will rot. It may still rebound. 😇
