The first time I tried a giant puzzle (3000 pieces) it was after watching Vicky Makes and Builds’ video on doing large puzzles. One of her best pieces of advice that worked for me was when she said “keep it as small as you can for as long as you can.” Basically what she recommends is build the puzzle on four separate foam boards - one for each quadrant. At first it’s a little bit of a pain to have to keep swapping which board you’re on as you find pieces for different parts of the image. Maybe it won’t be as much of a problem for your 5000, since as you said it seems to have three distinct areas. Plus - you’ll still be able to get it through the door without dumping it! Good luck!

Oh wow! That's a very good info to have! 🤩👌🏻 I shall watch that video for sure! And yes, from my measurements, I should be able to fit the 5k puzzle on 2 of the large foam boards, so all I have to do is NOT tape them together! 😅 Then I can carry them through the door, like you said, and store them under the bed! Very nice haul! I really like the giraffe puzzle. I would like to see you do the Harry Potter Lego set. I know how expensive they can be. My son and grandson are into Leggos big time. I wouldn't mix the bags on the 4000 piece. If the pieces are a repeat pattern that will be so frustrating and then the enjoyment is gone. Your 5000 piece looks extremely challenging. You might not want to do it on the floor. When your fur baby visits, that might be very tempting for him. I'm excited for the BOTYP III.

I'd like to see the Castorland puzzles done each bag at a time, so we get a better sense of how that works in case we want to buy our own. And, yeah, Legos are basically a 3D puzzle, but with specific instructions for assembly. I hadn't really thought of that before. ❤❤

Maybe do the one you chose as the separate bags, but if it’s ok and you know the cut you could challenge yourself for with the other one you could mix them.

Ah ok, that's not such a scary idea, because I would only have approximately 2600 pieces combined 🤔 I will definitely think about it, but first - like you said - I have to see how difficult the first bag will be 😅

Definitely show us the Lego build. As for giant puzzles - I am definitely not an expert but I suggest you don't join the boards together, just place them side by side and when you're not puzzling you can stack them on top of each other to save space. Vicki has a great video on how she manages giant puzzles. So far I've managed to rearrange things to make space for a large enough board (I'm currently doing my first 6000 piece) but I have reached my limit and will need to use multiple boards for anything larger, so I've been watching a lot of giant puzzle videos on youtube as research :). Good luck! Can't wait to see you build any and all of these.

I'm doing a 5K puzzle right now, much easier motive. What I ended up doing is buying a plywood 5mm thick, sanded and painted it (but could also have glued on decor paper) with a matt floor paint. For smooth area easy to clean. The size is big enough for a Ravenburger/ Clementoni 6000 puzzle which I think is the biggest one bag puzzles. I was also tempted to cut into smaller pcs and then faste them together and use a white electro tape to cover the "seam". This was a very nice haul, youre on for a really fun and challenging time. YAY

I have to admit that the blue car puzzle is not one that I would pick to do, but I will have a go with it. Good luck with doing the large puzzles, not my cup of tea at all. Lack of space for a start and I would get fed up doing what to me would be a never ending puzzle! That giraffe one looks really good, nice and colourful. I got slightly baffled at 1.05 when you said without the r on. 😕 Then I realised having watched Donna's video, that you were talking about the shrink wrap. Roll on BOTYP 3!

It's quite the mystery to me why Ravensburger has such a high reputation amongst puzzlers. I find most of their motifs not very appealing visually, yet they look pretty difficult to solve because of the limited colours in the artwork.

For me personally, Ravensburger is the one that I have the easiest access to, and is therefore a brand that I am very familiar with, and I can guarantee, that the quality is good, even with the older versions of the puzzle. Puzzle dust puts me off, there's way too much, but in terms of puzzle assembly, I prefer that the puzzle doesn't stay together too well, because I had have problems with some brands, that the pieces got damaged, when I tried to disassemble it 😅 They're limited on the motifs, I agree! That's why I like Schmidt, Clementoni and especially Trefl - Trefl has great designs, and a good price! 😁👌🏻

The wolves puzzle is one of the very few I did not assemble, because from the start all the pieces looked about the same colour. It is a big challenge and would love for you to persevere and get it done ❤

In relation to the colours on the bags in the 4000 piece Castorland. I belive it might be in relation to Port and Starboard. So the red one is port (left) and the green one is starboard (right) no colour is the middle. I don't know if that is actually the case but just a hunch. I purchased a puzzle mat for my dad that could fit 5000 pc puzzles. Works great. He just rolls it up when he's done puzzling and it takes no space at all.

I have the lighthouse, that one was in fact easy and I also have the wolves one, that one was challenging. So much snow! When I did a 2000 piece Castorland I mixed the two bags. I don't know if I'd mix the 3 bags for a 4000 one. It depends on the photo :)

I have the 2000 pc Ravensburger "Wolves in the Snow" Different picture but a lot of the same colouring... so twice the struggle to get it done. I'm procrastinating on it. I love the "Spirit Island" puzzle. Maligne Lake right here in Alberta. I also like the idea that it comes in three bags. I could actually do that puzzle because it is split. I may have to put it on my wish list. But it's $183 Canadian... so not dreaming about that one yet. I can get ten Cobble Hill 1000 pc puzzles on sale at Cabella's for that much. It's a no brainer. My money is better spent waiting for a Cobble Hill sale. But love the picture.

I'm procrastinating on mine and it's half your size!! 😅 I love the Spirit Island as well! 🤩 And I also love the fact that it's split into three bags as well! 😁👌🏻 I can understand that it's a lot more difficult for you to get it in Canada, as it is a Polish brand. I didn't even realise, but when I converted the prices to Euros, I was shocked in how cheap Castorland is - I think the 4k one was around 20-25€. It would probably be cheaper, if someone sends it to you from Europe 😅 And yes, I totally agree! It's no point spending that much money on a puzzle, I'd rather have 10 than 1 also! 😉

@@janetteandherpuzzlesI think the trick that did it for me was to lower my expectations of what I can do in a certain amount of time. Finish sorting in one day? Just give up on it and take it one piece at a time. Yes, I started the assembly, but I am still not finished sorting the stuff that is not super obvious. Even though it is a slow process, I like it this way. I do the whole thing properly without any regrets or excuses.

It's so cool you'll try Castorland puzzles, Janette! In Poland most puzzlers love them, including me. I've done plenty of them and enjoyed every single one 😊I also have the 4000-piece with the image of the city, river and bridge - I got it as a reward for winning a small local puzzle competition in Przemysl, Poland. I haven't done it yet. It does look hard. As to the Heye puzzle with the giraffes - in Poland people are insane when it comes to Tinga Tinga series. Those puzzles can no longer be bought so people try to sell them for like 100-200 PLN. That's really crazy... So, that puzzle is kind of special, you know 😉 I do wish you 5k subsribers, but gosh, that Ravensburger puzzle 🙈 Oh my goodness! That is definitely going to be challenging...
