January 2025 Update For "Carsten's Wintergold" Dwarf Mugo Pin(4K)

My husband kept this in his study room as a bonsai for almost a year since 2021. It quite stressed for the whole of 2022. Showed browning of needles with zero growth. After being outdoors, new growth begins to show in Spring. Groomed it to a minimalist style. I am no expert in bonsai but sharing what I did. Now another update. Thanks for watching.

What a lovely surprise to see one of my favorite Golden Conifers! I absolutely love the sharp look clean branches give.😍The overall grooming came out fantastic. I have 4 Carsten’s. Just planted #4 a few days ago. I’m addicted to yellow conifers unfortunately 🤣Thank you for showing the work on this tree!😎🙏❤️

How old & how big are yours now. I am eager to know their size and growth rate in ground. With the set back, this is not growing much but it likely is different had it been in ground and have had no issues. Thanks in advance for sharing!

@ I’m so delighted you asked! The first one planted 2023 is 10”x10”. The other two planted last year are apx 8”x8”. The one I just planted is tiny. 7x3. They seem to fill out very quickly and put on bulk easily in ground. I’ve never left one in a pot very long. Usually go in ground a couple days after arrival. I can’t say accurately how many inches they’ve grown since planting. Growth is very noticeable though! I have them planted together in front of a Gold Cone juniper, Sanders Blue Spruce, Helmonds Pillar, Red Dawn Japanese Maple, Ruby Falls redbud and several more different things. I have a Laarheide Mugo in the Carsten’s group too. They’re a bit bigger. They’re all very very orange. The little conifers are planted in the front as you walk in my gate with all those others trailing behind as you walk up the path. I honestly adore these little conifers and can hardly take my eyes off them lol! I always say…Get 2 they’re small lol! Look up Kintzleys Ghost honeysuckle if you don’t know her yet. I just acquired one and have no idea where I’m going to put it. It’s already a 4 foot beast! 🥴🤣❤️Oh, if you go on MrMaple online shopping I left a review of my Carstens with photos. @@cindyl3916 Thanks for your detailed response. I get that there is visible growth when in ground. What a great mix of plants for a great color combination, deciduous and evergreen!! I looked up Laarheide and, boy, the winter color is bright! Saw your review and photos on the Mr Maple site. They are correct in saying the color is better in more cold! Coloration is more intense and throughout the whole needles. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Compared to your, mine has only a outer crown of gold.
