Your bees look good! We have 26 production hives. We started out with 8 nucleus colonies. We lost 3. 2 got too small. The other one was full of poop. Looks like dysentery or nosema. We’re here in Eastern Iowa. Happy Beekeeping!!

Why are you over smoking your bees in the middle of the winter? Why are you breaking seals before the temp is 65 F ??

Bees are hungry? Look up data on insulation. Studies on 43 insulated hives Vs 41 uninsulated hives show that insulated colonies use 30% less honey reserves in winter. Our local beeherders vary tremendously in winter feeding--from 60 pounds of sugar per hive to zero pounds

It’s hard to insulate 150 hives

@@georgeanderson1443 Then insulate 100 and get same amount of honey. Beeherders in places like Egypt insulate hives to increase honey in hot weather ---instead of bees cooling hives, they are out getting nectar if hives are insulated in summer. Original langstrum patent show insulation for bottom box. Our hives are like American Tomatoes--built for ease of transportation , not for product.

It’s too hard for me to wrap all my hives. The most sugar we’ve ever put on is about 4 pounds.😊
