Join flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery of Common Farm Flowers in sunny Somerset as she makes the first floral commissions of the year. Friday flowers for early January. These flowers are all grown in the UK and readily available to florists at this time of year. Georgie shows you how these flowers arrive from the growers, and how she processes them to condition before she creates arrangements with them.
This clip is designed to inspire, enable, educate and encourage you to create a teeny #30stemchallenge of your own this weekend. Get outside and feel the fresh air and the light on your face - even for ten minutes. I promise you won't regret it.
For a full list of workshops and demos held by flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery see here to book your place www.commonfarmflowers.com/pag....

You know what, even if Hazel 1960 has left the building, I for one have thoroughly enjoyed all the thought provoking interaction In the chat. I'm in New Zealand and am in the thick of summer - drought to be accurate, but rain on the horizon, so my flowers are abuzz with wildlife and so I'm grateful to share such simple pleasures with kindred spirits across the globe. Thankyou Georgie, Fabrizio and fellow flower groupies. I love you all.

Prior to your video I spotted some primroses flowering in the garden, just picked 4, to leave the rest for the insects, and one flower spike of Mahonia Winter Sun, they have cheered up my desk on a gloomy day! Would love to have a winter honeysuckle but not sure where I could squeeze it in, would it cope against an East facing fence or does it need more sun?

Georgie. That poisonous sap on the narcissi. What about the old tale, that it has a detrimental impact on other flowers in the vase and therefore shouldn’t be mixed? What do you make of that please? That is why I have looked on narcissi as a loss leader, because they don’t hold much value on their own. Could you clear that one up for us?
@theflowerfarmer
@theflowerfarmer 6 ай бұрын
I have never seen narcissi affect the health or long life of other flowers in mixed bouquets and have used them in mixed arrangements for sale for fifteen years - they ARE poisonous but I've never seen them kill other flowers x

As a professional florist in a very successful shop I would never be able to play with flowers they way you do You should think yourself very lucky Just think about the sympathy trade enormous in the winter months I understand that’s not your core business But please do not think you’re better than a florist that buys imported flowers Actually for years my Dutch man flowers came in brown paper We reused the boxes I also was in the Lee valley area and went straight to the green houses Your flowers have has massive heat which is not so green

@@hazel1960I can see you are passionate about your floristry, and that your experience has taught you a lot. Georgie is a talented business woman and florist, who has been able to achieve a personal goal of providing for her family while still valuing her impact on the environment. It is just the ethos of her boutique business. I don’t think she was trying to be “better than”. I hope you will come to understand her perspective as you watch her channel longer.

In years gone by I used to think nothing of using flowers from all four corners of the globe - the client got whatever they wanted. I used plastic containers, pot tape, floral foam, plastic wrap, the whole nine yards. I have hopped from foot to foot under the central clock in Covent Garden (Nine Elms) searching in panic fashion to find my list - always just in a pocket previously searched! I have met the Flying Dutchman in a lay by to collect flowers missed from an order or when I have done my best to satisfy a bridal change of mind. Whilst I absolutely do not buy in to the global warming / end of the world hype, I do want to have a positive rather than negative footprint and have chosen to work on similar priciples to Georgie using minimal and natural materials. I now grow and use/sell flowers and appreciate all the steps described in this video. Industries evolve, we learn, and most importantly, we are on our own very unique journey. With KZbin content we can cherry- pick who and what we watch and our play lists can be varied and vibrant or we can create our very own echo chamber. We all have our quirks. Personally, I have chosen to never do funeral work unless for a very close friend. I just don't feel comfortable with it. I know, I'm weird.....well, at any rate unique!
