Today I'm making my own door wreath.
Join me for a festive #30stemchallenge making a Christmas wreath with all that's leftover after a flat out season making Christmas foraged style arrangements for all my lovely clients. This is made entirely of leftovers found lying about the flower studio.
What will you make your wreath with? What can you find and work with? Can you too make a wreath with purely compostable ingredients? Will you go large with yours? Where will you hang it?
Please do take pictures and tag @commonfarmflowers #30stemchallenge if you share your work inspired by this clip on your instagram and I'll share some on my stories.
For a full list of workshops and demos held by flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery see here to book your place www.commonfarmflowers.com/pag.... Remember, workshop and demo places make excellent Christmas gifts.
For an ad-free version of this clip, all the info re the redesign of the flower farm and the new studio being created in the field, and all Georgie's new clips with extra tips, news and regular live at 5s, do join her KZbin club. You can join up here: / @theflowerfarmer
If you enjoy the tips and tricks Georgie gives you here, or would simply like to support the channel, the link to her Buy Me a Coffee page is here: www.buymeacoffee.com/COMMONFARM

I love how the fresh and dried is like a multi-generational family under the same roof. The fresh, pristine young buds accompanied by the withered, wizened elderly seedheads and other finery.

Lovely wonky wicker work! Did you know that the Vikings always had big wreaths on their doors and in their houses when they celebrated their festival of Yule? That's where we got this tradition from - and the round shape of the wreath is very important, as it signifies the year coming full circle - fascinating!

Loved the wreath Georgie. I too dislike the darkness, but as from this week when its the Winter Solstice, it gets lighter by 2mins 7secs each day and by the 18th January we have a whole hour more of lightness. Hooray!!! I've been out this morning and the snowdrops are popping through. xxx

I love the wreath. Years ago, I went to a place called "Flower Camp" in Virginia, USA. It was a getaway to learn flower arranging using flowers from your own garden. Nearby, there was a willow grower called "Rosemary's Pussy Farm." I couldn't make that up if I tried.

Beautiful! Like a piece of art, actually. So unique and beautiful. I made a large table arrangement for my brother’s Christmas party using your approach as inspiration, with only materials from my garden and blowdown foraged from nearby parks. It’s rather a freeing of the spirit sort of thing! I didn’t worry about formality, just focused on flow and natural / complementary combinations. I think it turned out well and far less stressful for sure. I’ll have to rewatch your garland-making video because I’d like to get away from the wire gage usage when I make garlands. Love your explanations of the countryside and history.

Beautiful 😍. I made my very first wreath today because they had pruned a hedge of evergreens in the green space in our village where I sometimes take my dog. I say pruned to be polite, hacked, better describes the massacre. So dog in one hand, branches in the other we trudged back home in the doom and gloom to have some fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the process but it's no work of art I can tell you 😅 between you and I, it took far longer than an hour. I too get so excited at the thought of the approaching winter solstice and the lengthening days ❤ I thank the heavens for people like you who put these ideas in our heads and make us have a go, a very pleasant moment. Thanks for sharing 😊

You are a practical philosopher, Georgie. Again, I love your videos. I'm in awe of you. LOL. And the wreath is breathtaking! I decided I will grow willow (some small variety that will fit in a corner of my little yard) next year, so I can have my own material for wreathmaking. Do share your podcast with the Australian person you mentioned, so I can go watch it.

So interesting to hear about the origins of chalk and cheese. I’m originally from leafy Surrey and now firmly planted in Sussex. It never ceases to amaze me the differences between these two counties, that’s what is so great about this country, our oddities and quirks. I shall gather as much foraged twiggery as I can and fashion a circle. Thanks so much yet again..I bought you a coffee ☕️ x

I made a low table centrepiece without flowers - I used fir, pine, cedar of various colours and red branches from a fetter bush. With a few pine cones. Love it! And the idea of making it low as to not block the people across the table came from you! Thank you - great idea. 🎄

Beautiful wreath! I love how it’s all natural and from the garden. Never made one before but I have looked at a few videos on other channels and they all used florist wire which I don’t have but I have plenty of strong garden string so will give it a go. My holly never has berries 😢 but I have plenty of honesty, sea holly etc which you have shown to be lovely in a wreath. May even add a bit of dock which I also have plenty of 🤭 Merry Christmas ☃

Love the beautiful eco wreath, no wire to fish out of the compost when it returns to nature. Looks beautiful against the blue door, though I might rotate it 30 degrees or so clockwise, to make it less symmetrical, put the bushier part with the dried flowers mostly on the right side, to give it a livelier sense of a wheel in motion. Different strokes ...
