This is a really cute video and I also liked what Elysse said about just writing down 1 word for each minute of a video. It can really help to keep us more focused on what's important :)

When I read in a target language, I don’t take note of every unknown word…I wait until I have seen it a few times to the point that I can recognize it and be like “damn this word keeps coming up so it must be relevant/common/important etc”. I’m learning Persian and so I had to learn the Persio-Arabic script. I didn’t learn letter by letter, I learned “in context” which is how I learn all scripts. Basically just reading/learning words and how they’re written in the script. After a month, I feel much more comfortable with it. I’m still slow with words I’ve never seen or don’t recognize but definitely making improvements. Happy learning!

Thank you for this tip! What kind of context have you been using to learn the script? And what’s kind of your process once you come across a word you deem important? I would love to hear more

@@myuniyt I’ve mostly just been using LingQ. I just dove in and started listening and following along until I started to recognize letters and words. Then when I read, I read out loud and if I come across a word that I start to recognize it, like I feel like I have said it before or something related, that’s when I consider it important. Sometimes with new scripts, I’ll even go by the visual, like if I have seen the word before. But I really try to read out loud in my target languages as much as possible. I made a video a while ago about how I learn scripts in other languages but I think I’ll make one about my reading technique too.

Early into my language learning journey (I say as if I'm the *expert*😒) I started the first episode of my favorite TV show in Swedish and then prodceed to write down *every word* I did not understand or know. By the end of a twenty minute episode I had 200 words. I never looked at them again. When I started watching a different show that was 15 minute episodes and only allowed myself to write down 5-10 words I know I learned them and comprehended them way better than those 200. Still to this day I shout "VÄNTA" instead of "wait"

I didnt study any of my languages in January (and i am noticing the lack of ease when it comes to asl) so in February my goal is to just study the languages again!
