I read The Last Hours a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so I hope you continue to have a good time reading it. I’m reading The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai for Fever-uary, which is 519 pages, so I’m feeling similar trepidation about a big book! I look forward to hearing what you think of Winter Love. 😊

Business as Usual sounds really good, so does Winter Love. I've been having no luck at all this month, my reads have been meh to alright, with one dnf thrown in for good measure. I've been wanting to read really badly, but I can't decide what, which is the most annoying reading mood 😫. I've chosen some readathon prompts for february just to help me pick, which will hopefully make for a better reading month.

If short stories are growing on you try Antartica by Claire Keegan. It was the first book I may have read because of booktube scores of years ago. 😊. They are true short stories and the first story was stupendous!!

Re short stories - yes you made sense, or at least you did to me. I've read two Claire Keegan books and loved her writing style, I preferred foster to small things like these. I am planning to read more, but eventually ... Busy at the moment with 3 readalongs 🤦 I've just started Mrs dalloway on a Voxer group I've read with before and I've been doing the war and peace and wolf hall readalongs with footnotes and tangents...I'm trying to read bigger books (sorry if that scares you at all) I realised I was aiming for more books last year which turned into reading lots of short books, so thought the two long read alongs would push me to some longer books, problem being that as they are daily or weekly ones things keep getting in the way, so I'm behind. Once I've finished Mrs dalloway though (much shorter and only a couple of weeks readalong not the full year) I may be able to catch back up. I've not read any minette Walters books either but that one does sound interesting. Maybe once I eventually get around to reading Geraldine brooks year of wonder I'll give it ago.

I would love to read longer books, but I definitely rely on other people’s reviews to try and narrow down my picks. I find with a lot of longer books there seems to be a lot of padding and extra stuff that could be taken out which makes me end up not enjoying the reading experience overall.

Best books read in January ( with my ears) Tom Lake by Ann Patchett North Woods by Daniel Mason Falling Animals by Sheila Armstrong How To Build A Boat by Elaine Feeney A book you might like more than me is This Is Happiness It’s set in Kerry/Clare in the 1960s. Too twee for me but great writing. Currently reading The Bandits Queens Time Shelter ☘️👋🍀📕📖☕️📚🇮🇪💐

I really enjoyed Matrix and have Vaster Wilds for the BookTube Prize. I hadn't tried any of hers before so interesting to hear about these. I may skip The Monsters though. Business as Usual sounds intriguing.

Was January just unexpectedly dramatic for everyone? 😅 The publication decisions behind So Late in the Day FASCINATE me. Why have they published a short story in hardcover and are charging a novel price for it? The skeptic in me is grumpy about it. Business As Usual sounds really interesting actually, I may have to pick that one up!

Had the same experience with So Late in The Day. Is my least favourite by her books so far. I could see what she was trying to achieve, but for me it didn't work.
