If you haven’t done this already, I’d be interested to hear your take on loan consolidation for PSLF. There is an extension for folks with PSLF to consolidate before April 2024. It seems this would allow any ineligible federal loans to be consolidated into a direct loan that would be eligible. And all the consolidation gets back-dated to the oldest loan, so theoretically one might be able to pay these off sooner.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care about any of those prestigious schools and they are not really needed in today’s world to guarantee a good education and earning high incomes. I think it depends on what studies they are good at and if they even benefit a person to go there instead of a regular college.

It’s not the lack of good education is the lack of access and concerning that they’re intentionally trying to build themselves even more of a bubble to make it difficult to have connections to even traverse classes. There’s plenty of cases we’re having plenty of money is not enough to get you excepted into certain Industries it’s getting to the point where you’re not able to even be allowed to buy things if you’re not from a certain purchasing group
@planetChristie11 ай бұрын
@@Justcetriyaart I personally have made good networking connections in a normal school. Access to what exactly? There are plenty of resources and networking with others without a prestigious degree. Some things should be exclusive and super rich families should be allowed to attend such schools as they live in a different world anyway. I have seen how envious others can be to people who grew up in wealth so this is a safe space for them as well as top performing people who get in those schools. Not everything should be accessible to everyone 🤷🏾♀️.

I do agree that barring schools with above a certain endowment from accessing student loan funding is problematic. I understand wanting to encourage schools to use their endowments to provide scholarships, but there is no guarantee that they will if we all the sudden cut them off from student loans. If that happens, we will probably see a world where only rich people are able to attend elite universities which is not a good thing. We do need to hold universities accountable for high tuition costs, but I don't think simply restricting their funding is the solution to that.

Hmmm I have to disagree with you here. I went to and got accepted into a number of elite colleges. The Pell grant was a very small part of my package. These schools are need blind and accept you without any consideration of your financial aid needs. In addition, they are need based and give you packages to provide for whatever financial need you have. Many schools have policies where if your family makes under a certain amount, tuition (if not everything) is free of charge. They just subtract the Pell grant from their internal grants. They do this with all outside scholarships like the coke foundation scholarship. I got full financial aid (grants no loans) for Harvard, Yale, and Princeton among other more newly highly ranked schools like WUSTL. And my household income was ~70k (inflation adjusted). Ivies were more affordable for me than my state school! I love spreading the word about this because so many lower income students count themselves out thinking they cant afford it.
@BreonaMcQueen11 ай бұрын
So true. This was good info! The same thing happened for me and many others., However, I was AND still am not interested in any ivy leagues. They’re basic to me. I did however get my doctorate, masters and residency completed at UCLA which I feel is better than the ivy leagues.
