@Merima284 жыл бұрын
I would say it's crucial that - you pick a genre you like - the narrator is very engaging so you become invested into the story - best listened to on a regular commute so that you know where you are driving and are left better to enjoy the book. If you like thrillers, anything by Michael robotham is done well and also the Scarpetta series by P. Cornwell. Karen Maitland audiobooks are superb too ( low fantasy and the characters are so memorable)
@wisedragonreads25924 жыл бұрын
I am the same way!!!! But I found that I can re-read books via audio because even if I tune out for a bit and come back, I'll know where I am at. I can also do non-fiction because it reminds me of being in a class, so if I zone out for a bit, I can try and jump back in and connect the dots.
@MsLadybug19744 жыл бұрын

It's cool seeing you react to Fitz's journey from the start. I agree that each Fitz book in the series gets better, and you're right--it's because we continue to get closer to him, and over the course of his ENTIRE life. If you make it through, I'll say that the final book (the ninth Fitz and the Fool book, though there are other editions in the Realm of Elderlings) portrayed the most poignant, satisfying, and complete lives and friendships (of Fitz and the Fool), not just in epic fantasy, but in literary fiction.

Samantha S I feel the same. I definitely think Susanna Clarke could’ve been a bit more concise with this story, but at the same time all of the details and world building made it as good as it is. I also came in with a slightly different perspective, having watched the show first and then going into the book, so I already knew all the important plot points and story beats before even turning the first page. So, rather than feeling like the story was dry and boring at times, I felt like the book was expanding upon a story I loved and was already familiar with.

I'm surprised you haven't tried audiobooks in the past. You defininitely picked a great one to start with. The full cast for Daisy Jones and the Six was outstanding. I listen to audiobooks on my commute in my car and also while working around the house, washing dishes, folding clothes, cooking, etc. Once you get used to them, you can try increasing the speed of the playback. I know people that listen at 2 or 3x speed but that's too fast for me, unless I'm reading along with it, which I do occasionally. Otherwise, depending on the story and narrator, I usually listen around 1.5x (+/-.25). Some books have great narration, some are just OK-not adding or taking away from the story or experience, and some just don't work well as audiobooks. You'll find what you like and will find favorite narrators. I had a slow month in January. I read 2 books (The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah and The Third Option by Vince Flynn) and listened to 2 audiobooks (The One by John Marrs and The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek). All for were really good.

Ok I think I need to listen to the audiobook for Daisy Jones, I read it but to me it definitely fell short especially compared to Evelyn Hugo, didn't get the hype for this one. Not enough depth and I wasn't attached to the characters, I just wanted more. Even when something really bad happened to them I was just like "oh, okay, so that happened". And maybe it's just a me problem because I watch so many rock'n'roll movies (love the 60s-70s) but I feel like if you've seen any of those you kind of already know what's going to happen haha (sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll..). But usually it doesn't stop me from enjoying these stories over and over again and I can appreciate that it's kind of a unique concept in the book world (especially in fiction). I actually can't believe I never thought of writing something like that xD
