Hi everyone I hope you are doing well. This week’s video is a special trip to Jungfraujoch, the Top of Europe. It’s as close to a winter feeling one can get when traveling to Switzerland in summer 😊. Hope you will enjoy and wish you all a great week ahead 🌺🌼🌸

Would covering how to get around Switzerland be a good topic? Public vs renting a car - especially if you plan to go to smaller locations vs just the big cities.

First and foremost, I take my hat off and give my standing ovation to the true heroes who had built the tunnel. Jungfraujoch definitely showcases one of Switzerland’s most cutting edge technology that is worth visiting. And how I cried😭😭😭 looking at those assorted selections of Lindt chocolates because they cost at least twice or thrice over here! Thanks again, Janus, for this amazingly insightful vid👍🏻😃🌻!
@januslog3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Aisha, yes the building of this tunnel is really an engineering masterpiece. The chocolates were so yummy and they had flavors I never had seen before 😋

On the Jungfraujoch are some new tunnels since 2012. For example the ones with the escalator you would usually find in an airport or the one with the small glass bridge. My dad was actually the engineer in charge of this project. Kind of proud that he is part of such an amazing project that the top of Europe is.

Fun fact: the reddish dust covering the snow in this video (but especially easy to see between 6:15 and 6:55) is actually dust from the sahara that gets carried to the alps after large sandstorms in Africa and then deposited here. Pretty wild, eh?

If anyone is considering doing that walk in the snow that he showed just keep in mind the elevation. I've done the walk on Sulphur mountain in Banff Canada at 8,000 feet as well as hikes into Bryce Canyon USA at about 8,500 feet and been to the summit of Mauna Kea at 13,800 feet. This place is 11,300 feet. For me, an out of shape person who lives at sea level the change up to 8K feet wasn't too bad but that was mostly flat walking on a nice wooden structure. At 8.5K the hike back out of Bryce canyon was definitely felt and I had to stop numerous times. The last time I went up to the summit of Mauna Kea just walking around on a level surface for maybe a hundred yards left me as tired and dizzy. Lots of people in the video so probably safe but just be careful :) Oxygen level at: Sea Level- 20.9% 8,000 ft / 2,438 m - 15.4% 9,000 ft / 2,743 m - 14.8% 11,000 ft / 3,352 m - 13.7% 13,000 ft / 3,962 m - 12.7%
@januslog3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing Komainu. You are absolutely right, that walk will not be for everyone. I found the soft snow the most challenging to walk on. It's a bit like walking on sand - just takes even more effort.

An alternative to paying the large amount of money to go to the top of the Jungfrau would be as I did (who could'nt afford the hundreds of Pounds for 2 people) is just to go to Kleinne Schideg (for great views) which is much cheaper and also the rest of the journey to the top is in tunnel anyway. I also went to the top of the Schiltorn which is a spectacular trip and again much much cheaper than the |Jungfraujoch.

Regards, Moustafa
@januslog3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Moustafa. Exploring Switzerland by car will give you the most flexibility and this is what I did for the most part too. But traveling by train is also a viable option. You may save some money if you get your rental car in Italy or France and drive into Switzerland. In terms of routes, there is indeed so much to see. I am working on editing quite a lot more videos on different parts of Switzerland. Coming from Zurich, you may want to include Lucerne, Lungern, Interlaken and the Bernese Oberland in your trip. I’d also visit the Valais and Zermatt, the French part with Montreux and the lake Geneva region and the Ticino, Lugano and Locarno for example. Basel to the Northwest and the Heidiland region in the Northwest are really beautiful too. Greetings to Dubai 👍

That’s a tough one! They are quite different. If you want to experience snow, go on Europe’s highest mountain railway and see a glacier up-close, go for the Jungfrau. If you prefer to go on a cliff walk, see cows, lakes, green meadows with a snow-capped mountain panorama, go for First.
