It's safe but there are other problems which are making life unbearable for younger generation and even the elderly. What's good to feel safe when you walk outside but then have to go to school and get systematically bullied to a point of no return, how is it safe if young women have to resort to prostitution because of an epidemic of emotional emptiness which pushes them to resort to hosts clubs and thus getting into debt with crooks. Or old people simply dying alone in their appartments. I feel there is a lot these foreigners seem to ignore because they simply compare it to their own countries. But there are many issues in Japanese society that will simply be pushed on the side and carry on at the expense of those in need. Let's hope they will change.

In the case of Japan, loneliness is a major problem... you don't have a minister of loneliness if it isn't, and apparently, other countries are getting one due to the endemic problem loneliness can bring. The women only train cars are a temporary solution due to the Chikan practice made by twisted individuals. There is nothing wrong with accepting the fact that your country has problems that's actually the first step to being able to fix them, and that's no matter how well developed you are.
