Great video Paul. It reminds me the final story of the book Good to Great, where an ancient greek sculptor made the backs of the statues (that nobody would see) just as perfect as the fronts of the statues. When he was questioned why he had "wasted is time" doing that, he simply replied: "Because the Gods can see it"...

if you saw it in person how japanese work, its really amazing! Precise and calculated movement. They dont move fast but they moved perfect speed to get the right quality in every details and they finish the job in right time sometimes faster.

I wish they still build japanese trucks and most cars in Japan. Since they moved the production here, quality went down dramatically. I've met Koreans and Japanese, a lot of them in general are more hardworking, serious, smart and motivated fellas. I'm taking about the one who grew up in Japan/Korea. The one who grew up here in the US has mostly got that American mentality. If I'm rich enough, I'll probably send my son to prestigious school in Asia to both learn discipline and gain better education. My younger sister when she came here in the US thinks math and science in the US is a joke. That says a lot since kids don't lie about that stuff.

Yes, yes, yes! I have to agree with you. it's very sad. I have great hope for our country and I believe we can get it together, but we need a swift kick in the rear end and then another slap upside the head so we can come to our senses. we have some serious problems and they have to do with our perspective on work...our entitled mentality and the sobriety to which we approach work! In my humble opinion, it is an honor to be able to work. Paul

Where do you think it comes from? Training? Culture? Something else?
@paul-akers
@paul-akers 2 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a cultural thing but why is the culture like that I talk about this in my book banishing sloppiness. essentially Japan does not have the resources that the rest of the world has so they had to find a way to compete and they do it by being obsessed with quality in the elimination of defects,

So funny. In America, the guy would have been texting on his phone the entire time taking 10 times as long to do the job and the quality would be crap.

He might be more organized, but i bet im faster and just as accurate with my cuts, that long device he is using is unnecessary and is just making him do extra steps, just cut as you measure with the blade and tape measure in one motion. Just my 16 years of experience here, everyone works different no doubt.

That’s the big question production over quality? The US auto makers were focused on output. The Japanese auto makers are focused on quality, who won? Do you have a 2000 year old civilization that has never been colonized and always been independent is there something to say for sustainability?
