I joined a lean company about a year back... my god it was so refreshing!. Instead of hearing "But that's the way we've always done it" when I'd say something about how a process could be improved. Instead the team leader would go get who was needed to make the improvement happen and MAKE it happen.

Amazed by the tolls here making negative comments that have not accomplished anything approaching this themselves. Might listen if they have done something similar...maybe. So I just disregard and chalk it up to jealousy I guess. Nothing wrong with being proud of what you've accomplished. This is not easy to do. Well done and keep it up!

Hi Paul. To get rid of the reverb in the conference room put some acoustic foam on the underside of the table. I also do a drop panel hanging from the ceiling above the table and put acoustic foam on top of that. Makes a big difference!

You motivate me Paul...I was introduced to lean 10 years ago when I was fresh out of the Marines and working at a Toyota factory in long beach..it was love at first sight.. i read everything i could get my hands on about all aspects of lean from "just in time" ,"kanban" "tps" "5S" "the deadly wastes ...the list goes on.....its so inspirational to see someone combine the best of both worlds for me ( Lean and woodworking) ...woodworking is my therapy for dealing with the anxiety and depression from my PTSD...it does what no medication can ever do and takes my mind off all the unwanted memories of combat..it saved my life , so to pay it forward I created a workshop to introduce other veterans to woodworking..I try to apply Lean in every aspect of my life ...I love Fast Cap..Fast Cap looks to improve itsellf on a daily basis ..so the few negative comments about FastCap are just hating ..Fast Cap is at the top of there game ...Great staff as well ....LeAnne and Sandy are so so awesome . Sandy is truly the best she always replies to my emails promptly she is very helpful and professional ...she deserves a raise because she is a very hard worker.. Keep up the amazing work Paul.

Always an inspiration for the north American manufacturing industry. Of course, there might be some errors now and then but nowhere else will you find an example of a group of people who are always willing to improve and become better. If 10 percent of our industry even aspired to the same level of excellence as FastCap, then we wouldn't need to elect politicians full of empty job promises. Love the chance to visit the factory virtually. Congratulations to Paul and his team.

Idea: anyone taking a tool must leave an identifier in its location (such as a penny with their initials) so the whole plant does not shut down when a tool goes missing. 👍
@kchigley5309
@kchigley5309 4 жыл бұрын
A further step would be to have regularly needed tools in the place where they are needed, rather than a central location for tools that then travel to other locations. The money spent on having extra tools is easily recovered by the time saved in motion.

Great video, the way it should be at any high end manufacturing facility. Smart, lean, super clean, safe and fun! before going on my own, I worked at a few places during my engineering, creative design, product development career, where lean environment was a must for efficiency. But nothing gets to that level without a leader that is lean himself or herself. My motto has always been "Nothing is impossible and everything is negotiable withing reason", but without good mental as well as physical health, it is difficult to achieve one's dreams.

@FastCapLLC
@FastCapLLC 7 жыл бұрын
Steve Good idea pretty simple to do the orders get typed up the office they go about 10 steps to the shipping department someone pulls the order walks down the grocery aisle picks the item rolled it in the cart to the shipping table and it's out the door generally well under one hour. First two hours of the day we have a large team of people building the product for the day in the build cells and then we start pulling orders.

As a student, this video provides some much-needed real life insight into how the theories of lean are applied.. Thank you for that! One question: From a volume-variety perspective, we're taught that manufacturers often benefit from standardizing components (at least from the manufacturer's point of view), as this allows higher production volume and, as such, lower cost price per unit. Of course, a lean, functional layout provides tons of flexibility which is very much a requirement in many markets, but do you have any experience trying to push towards some type of "mass customization"?
@FastCapLLC
@FastCapLLC 7 жыл бұрын
Michkel I wish I understood your question but I don't. But I will tell you is that our company is able to respond to Custom requests almost as quickly as our typical orders because we are both flexible and our processes are very well be refined. Generally speaking work is easy for us we don't struggle to do anything so when the custom order comes in one off or a requirement for 10,000 custom pieces our ability to respond is very fluid. Who is the important thing you must understand regardless of what you've been taught in school. Lean makes work easier for the people doing the work that is the only thing you need to focus on. When the work is easy the worker has time to do the job correctly and focus on quality. Work that is easy also allows you to do the work at a lower cost. In the end the customer we are all here to serve with us they get a higher quality product at a lower cost in a more timely fashion. The customers is pleased they return over and over again and the worker has security for the future. Just make your work easy and forget about everything else.

Not as good as the original but interesting all the same. I give you credit for limiting the number of visits. Lots of companies are eager to engage in "industrial tourism" but not lots of companies are willing to do the work to get where FastCap is. To anyone who might view this video and think, "Wow! I'd like to visit that operation to learn more!"...forget it. You learn all you need to know from this and the other FastCap videos. You just need to get to work. I think visualization is perfect, but I see there is overstock on the warehouse (WIP, finish good), there are over hand tools in every work cells. It would be better if you show some internal lean process and some kpi or ppi as turnover, capacity, oee, profit per emp, lead time, tact time. Where is a goal, where is an increasing sales, volume, efficiently? If it is as visualization for visualization there is not lean. I'm sure this building may be decrirse twise. I admire you, Paul, and your people. You inspire me for when I start a company to start with Lean ideals. For a person finishing my bachelor's degree in operations management soon to be in my masters degree in leadership, I wonder if you could spare some wisdom. Do you in your facility use lean six sigma or strictly lean. My thoughts were to make lean simple with gaining a bronze lean certificate instead of gaining the white and yellow belt with lean six sigma. What r your thoughts?

I am wondering why Paul didn't wear safety glass while he is travelling on the shop floor and record this video ?
@FastCapLLC
@FastCapLLC 7 жыл бұрын
We have an amazing safety record we don’t apply safety in a ridiculous fashion. we wear safety glasses when it’s appropriate and there is obvious safety condition. 80% of all Toyota factory workers do not wear safety glasses.

Any plan to have subtitle options in other languages for your videos?

My 2 Second Lean book has been translated into many languages mostly because folks have volunteered to do that. All the electronic versions of all my books are available online for free. paulakers.net/books If you know of anyone who wants to create subtitles in other languages for some of my videos, have them send them to lori@fastcap.com. Thanks Joey!

I understand the concept of working standing up for better efficiency all the time, but after 4 or 7 hours standing people do not complain, how have they adopted it?
@FastCapLLC
@FastCapLLC 7 жыл бұрын
No complaints. Folks can ask for a chair if they want one. Also we have chairs at break and in the workout facility upstairs.

How about offering rubber floor mats, to improve the ergonomics of standing for a prolonged time on hard concrete? It is standard in Germany since, uh, 40-50years or so. Kind regards, Gereon

Rick thank you so much for the kind words Toyota has actually been to our facility and we have a great relationship with them. the issue with Toyota is they are so advance it's difficult for them to see things at a very low level because that's where most people are. we are predisposed to a low level because were at a low-level so we make it more accessible because of our infancy:)
