Maglev trains work using the principles of superconducting magnets. Japan's maglev hold the world record of being the fastest train at 600 kmph. It is still in testing phase (on a test track of 42.8km in Yamanashi prefecture) and when it opens to public it will have an operational speed of 500 kmph. Thus a journey from Tokyo to Nagoya will only take 40mins (and hour less than the current Tokaido Shinkansen).

When I travel to US I definitely miss the service of high speed trains. But then USA is huge in size. Japan is smaller than California and I have travelled half the length of the country in 6 hrs. So keeping time in mind it may not be in the best interest of USA to focus on high speed railway.

@@MinasanKonnichiwa777 that's like saying it's better to fly a fighter jet in a closet. Anything built for speed is better operated in a spacious manner. I could board a bullet train in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and be in Jacksonville Florida in about 4 to 6 hours instead of 12 hours by ca or 13 to 14 hours by EV. You damn right i would park my car and take the train.....

@@carlsmith5545 Yes of course it would be nice to have them. People like us who love trains will use them but is there enough demand to make it economically sustainable? Most people would take a 2 hour flight instead of a 6 hour train. Also in Japan the prices of these bullet train tickets are quite high and often over long distance trips its cheaper (and faster) to just fly.

@@MinasanKonnichiwa777 you can't demand something you don't know about. There was no demand when the first flight came out. Walking on the moon? The only demand for that was Kennedy. Trust me you come out with a fast train, ridership will give rise....

I dont understand is that why do japanese trains have such a huge nose unlike french tgv or german ones have small and go ecqually fast
@MinasanKonnichiwa777
@MinasanKonnichiwa777 2 ай бұрын
From my understanding the nose design is not just to help it go faster but also it provides several aerodynamic advantages. One of them is to avoid the 'piston effect' when it enters a tunnel (Japan being a mountainous country has lots of them). This reduces the noise pollution.
