Discrimination is not only on racial grounds but it can be due to prejudices.

The coverage of burakumin is fine but the newscaster's repeated comments on strangeness of presence of outcast in "such a modern society" are naive if not preposterous. Racism and ethnic prejudice and discrimination exist all over the world, including France! Thankfully, the Oxford professor interviewed corrects the newscaster's ethnocentric account (on superstition) and his naive question on criminal activities, but this newscaster appeared to remain ethnocentric and ignorant. What a white privilege! I'm embarrassed to show this film to my students in a US college course on Japanese society. I hope the students learn from this bad example!

Humans have an incredible power and capacity for influence within them. cruelty kindness they both live in the same house, choices decide who comes to the door to answer the call of need.
@dogetaxes8893

Humans are incredibly social and anti-social at the same time, psychology tests have been preformed where they randomly/artificially break people into different groups, and found that people will favour/treat better the people they got put in a group with compared to those outside. The same psychology that underpins you loving your family and friends more than randoms has the same roots as the psychology that causes racism and discrimination. People will always favour their group and it makes sense, your bound to like your friends and country more than others, its just about being self aware of that and not letting it become toxic. As you said, deciding who comes to the door.

It's same as Indian caste system where Dalits are known as Lower Caste or untouchables and Upper Caste known as Higher caste. Lower caste can't marry in higher caste and in some places Dalits (Lower caste) can't even sit or eat with higher caste. Indians call themselves that there is no caste system or we don't believe in caste system but they marry according to their caste!! Many Higher Caste Indians want to talk about on Reservation and nobody has a dare to abolish caste system which is the root of inhumanity, inequality and atrocities against Dalits (lower caste).

It’s by no means a ‘ modern society ‘ at all. Two characteristics that would have selected from literally hundreds of cases, both tiny and gargantuan,…..court ‘ cases ‘ result in conviction rates that the DPRK would envy,….it’s virtually unheard of, if not impossible, to find products such as cosmetics or toothpaste that attest to not having been tested on animals,….the percentage of women to be found in positions of corporate responsibility sits happily alongside the rates of say, Mauritania, or Sierra Leone.
