In Japan, more than 1 in 10 people of the country’s 124 million population are now aged 80 or older, according to a new report published by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on August 18, 2023. Japan’s fast-ageing population has forced the government to raise healthcare and pension spending. It has also introduced a package of wide-ranging measures to curb the country’s falling birth rate. But so far those measures have failed to reverse the trend.

@@danielwells774As cynical as it may sound, it all runs down to on circumstances. The reason why poor people have so many children in third world countries is because there's an incentive for them to help their parents with work as they grow. In more developed society, though, it takes a lot more time before children can make a net positive for the parents, shall we say.

@@danielwells774 Japan really isn't a poor country, now is it? So your comment also doesn't make sense. You would think a prosperous, progressive country like japan would have the means to take care of its citizens, especially the elderly. But nope. All of that wealth either goes to the super wealthy, or invested on other foreign/domesticated projects that have nothing to do with the livelihoods of their own people.

Problems with measured to boost birthrate is that they are created to ease childcare for people who already want children but they do nothing to motivate young people who dont want children at all to have them. The measures should be made so that they improve quality of life for people who decide to be parents. Put new measures that will allow parents to go to pension 2 years earlier for every child they have or that will give parents 2 weeks of hollidays per year for every child they have. This way you will motivate people who arent interesting in being parents to have children because their quality of life would rise so much for having children that it would be absurd not to have them.

@@constantinoplepasha5332 they merely adopted somethings and incorporated bits of culture from the west into their own...the people, the composition of their population, their temperament and characteristics that created their culture by and large has not changed.....i believe every race is unique, different people and races have different characters and temperaments and coupled with their environments over vast periods of time creates something entirely unique that cannot be replicated anywhere else or in any other time of history. Japanese and Japan as u know it are in its death throes...... in order to survive they have to replace something but how much are u willing to sacrifice how much are u willing to give up before you are no longer you? and if Japan is no longer Japan whats the meaning?,what is the point of persisting if u are no longer u?

@@jont2576I agree with you. Every country and race should protect their traditions and norms, as long as they are not against human rights. We don't need to make every corner of the earth multicultural. Some cities and states are fine to become multicultural where ideas from different cultures can be exchanged for more progress and development. But overall it's better to keep your culture and race safe. In trying to become multicultural, people infact end up losing all of their culture.
