Electric Dragon 80.000 V was a huge inspiration for me when I first got interested in filmmaking, I actually made a lil short film based on it.

Ishii doesn't have the huge amount of yearly output like some other directors in Japan. (namely Takeshi Miike and Sono Sion) So he might fly under the radar when it comes to contemporary filmmakers.

A Blu ray came out in Europe for this last year. It's region locked, but I have an unlocked player. It's awesome.

I had the same exact experience with Burst City back in the 2000s. I'm expecting to enjoy it more when I re-watch it in the next few weeks.
