I did come across that while I was doing research for this video, that is a common origin for Oni. Some people are so evil that they can turn into an Oni before they die, and that's where you get most of the mountainside variety of Oni.

Very cool video! It's interesting that Buddhists put so much detail into describing the tortures of hell. I also think that it sound like a much fairer and sensible system; obv all those punishments sound terrible but at least there's different punishments for all sorts of different actions? Whereas in Christian hell you get burned for eternity no matter the action, whether you were a murderer or just...not a Christian Also liked the small mention of Jigoku Shoujo! Criminally underrated show.
@GirtheAlienGoldfish4 жыл бұрын
I like how it also gives you a chance at redemption before being reincarnated. It's a nice way of thinking. "You're trash, but at least you can be redeemed. Unless you're really fucking bad, then there's no way we're releasing you back into the cycle of reincarnation."

@@howardgreenwood542 Mugen, or Avīci, is not eternal. The term 無間 follows the meaning in Sanskrit which is "without intermission." It is the worst of the hells in which the tormented beings there suffer with absolutely no respite. The time one spends there varies from person to person, but it is generally regarded as the longest lasting modes of birth as a hell-being. Only a buddha or powerful bodhisattva may bring relief before such a being is reborn into a higher realm.

I have some questions. It doesn't mention anything about drugs so are drugs lumped into the same category as alcohol or could I be popping pills, smoking crack, weed, and meth while snorting lines of cocaine between tokes every single day and still go to Japanese Heaven? Also, does the effect your sin had on others factor in? If someone killed either themselves or a bunch of innocent people because of your lie than yes, but would you also be sentenced to eternal torture if you only lied to not hurt someone's feelings (ie, telling your girlfriend she looks amazing in that dress when you actually think it looks like she's wearing a diaper.) Would you still be punished for murder if someone was trying to kill you and you had no choice but to kill them in self defense? What if you killed someone who was a monster that raped and murdered children or someone who was planning to commit an act of terrorism? Would Enma take note that you killing this person prevented the deaths of countless innocent people? Would the would-be terrorist I killed receive punishment for what he planned to do? Also, the oni for the eternal Hell must be really bored because how often is someone a... (deep breath) murderer, liar, thief, alcoholic, assaulter of those who follow Buddhist teachings AND a child molester? Also, I do agree with your assessment for the 1999 Jigoku, it looks way too silly and cheesy to be scary and the special effects are AWFUL, especially what's supposed to be a face without skin, definitely a film you'd watch while drunk and/or stoned and make fun of it. Granted, the effects in the original 1960 movie weren't perfect, but they still look great for the time and especially for the first splatter flick! The 1979 movie... it looks to be better than the 1999 movie, but still not near as good as the 1960 version.

Christ has his own cave story (Bethlehem). Imagine going into a cave and finding some Kyuuketsuki or Kapa like we see Ninja turtles.... That's where the stories come from. 🤔💭 🐢🐢🐢🐢 🐀...... You lean in for a drink in an underground pond and they are peaking out of the water.... Mermaids stories... I'm going off trail here but you get it.
