He doesn't like the music he created?
@EnnuiOn3 жыл бұрын
@@otakurocklee He's very dismissive of it, because he had no personal liking for the kind of music Japan put out. Looking at him, the whole glamourous pop aura and all, it's difficult to imagine that this was all a mask for him, an escape, but there really was no true artistic expression for him in the band. Until Ghosts, that is. But by that time there really was no coming back and he just wanted out - from the creatively-restricting band, the demanding and intrusive pop star life (he was crippling shy and hated being in the spotlight, which obviously doesn't align with the role of a pop band's front man), and just the natural inclination to go on their own ways and seek out more liberating forms of their own musical styles. And given how well he did in his solo career, it was a good decision for him because he truly did create some of his best music working solo. In the end tho, it's sad that they split up at their peak, but Japan will always be a part of UK's 80s pop culture and will always have a legacy.

@@EnnuiOn 100% agree but it’s funny that you call Japan creatively-restricting, as I see them as one of the most innovative and creative new-wave bands of the late 70’s/80’s…but seeing as how experimental he got on much of his solo work, I could understand how being in a huge bc pop band would be restrictive on an artist as creative as Sylvian, especially having to cooperate with musicians as equally genius and creative as Karn, Jansen and Barbieri
