JAPAN vs ITALY | Highlights | Men's VNL 2023. The Japan men's national volleyball team (Japanese: 男子バレーボール日本代表) represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association.
Their nickname is "RYUJIN NIPPON (龍神 NIPPON)", meaning "Japanese Dragon God" or "Dragon God of Japan" in Japanese.
Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo.
The Italy men's national volleyball team represents the country in international competitions and friendly matches. The national team is controlled by the Italian Volleyball Federation, the governing body for Volleyball in Italy. It is one of the most successful national teams in the history of volleyball, having won four World Championships (1990, 1994, 1998 and 2022), seven European Championships, one World Cup (1995) and eight World League (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2000). Italy is the reigning World champion, having won 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

以前の日本の試合はブロックは出来ない、フェイントに足が動かない、サーブが入らない、ブロックをされても同じミスを繰り返すもう途中で見るのも応援する元気も無くなってしまうのがいつもの事だった。石川選手が入って来て随分と雰囲気が変わった事は大きいと思う。今の選手は一致団結、カバーの充実苦手だったブロックが決まる。本当に試合が面白くなってますます応援したくなって来た。今までで最高に強い日本。西田選手の腰の調子が悪く心配だけど最高の試合を見せてもらえて幸せでした。ありがとう。

I'm Japanese, so I know why.To tell the truth, the Japanese men's national volleyball team has been very weak for 48 years because they had lost many games and didn't have good results.Therefore, the public and companies did not expect much from the men's national volleyball team, so unfortunately their games were not broadcast on TV programs all over Japan. However, in this VNL games they finished 3rd for the first time, and since they have grown into a very strong and attractive team, the Japanese people have finally started to pay attention to them🥉 They have shown themselves to be wonderfully strong through this tournaments, and their popularity is now very high in Japan!! I am very impressed and grateful for the outpouring of support for the Japan Volleyball Men's National Team from overseas🙏🤍

It is not the setters. Teams who made it to semi finals and finals will have the "equality Jersey" be worn by their chosen player/ambassador. In team Japan there are 2 ambassadors, Sekita, the setter and Nishida, the opposite. Though we didn't get to see Nishida played in that jersey because he was injured.

They get to wear for one set (first set) and they take it off. It's to show equality. VNL supports everyone even if you identify as gay, lesbian, trans, bird, cow, fish, or dinosaur.
