Great video! Love the overall chill vibes here. Do you mind sharing your itinerary or how you planned your trip in Japan? Any helpful resources/guides to plan a trip there?
@michaelschuh99532 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much 🙌. Sure I'm always happy to help others get an easy travel and photography experience. So we bought a Japan Rail Pass for 3 weeks and therefore we planned our trip around places we could easily access with the pass. For detailed planning when on location I can highly recommend the japan-guide website and for photography-specific spots, the Pat Kay Japan Guide is absolutely worth every penny. Other than that I planned this trip for at least 5 years so my google maps were full of markers from things I saw everywhere online 😅 . From Pinterest, Instagram, or photography websites. But honestly, Japan is so beautiful you can't go wrong ☺. Just check the sessions for nice weather. Autumn was great because of less rain and a pleasing warmth. But I read that summer is very rainy and humid so I wouldn't recommend going then. If you got some detailed questions about a location please feel free to ask!

I guess you talking about the Fuji X100V right? If so I would say it's an excellent camera to learn photography because of its handling with all the dials. You will better understand the three main settings (ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture) because it's more physical. Also, it's very compact so street and travel works perfectly as well :)

Hi can you share with me how you fix for night mode for videography and photography? With my x100v its always too dark. Can please help?
@michaelschuh9953 Жыл бұрын
Hi, so your problem is that your pictures turn out too dark? If so, consider switching your AUTO ISO settings to ISO 6400 with a minimum shutter of 1/60. Then turn your shutter and ISO dial to A and your aperture to F2. Set your exposure compensation to around -1 to +1 fitting to the scenery. The camera should adjust automatically. You can always adjust the exposure in the post if it's still too dark.
@randombits643 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelschuh9953 is this same setting scan be applied on video mode too? I'm having issue where the video is too dark despite changing the iso

Sooo many amazing shots! Even more excited for my X100V to arrive now. One question, did you apply anything specific to the Classic Chrome/Provia for the colours to pop?
@michaelschuh99532 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, the camera is amazing I hope that you get it fast 🙌. For in-camera adjustment, I would recommend pushing it a bit in the raw development. And in Lightroom, just adjust the tone curve a little bit for the mids or highs that will already bring a lot. For the night pictures, I almost always used a Black Pro-Mist 1/8 Filter. That softens the highs and gives you more flexibility for the colors of the highs. Hope I could help you ☺.

there's a ton of good photos there. Are they straight out of camera jpegs or are twicked from the profile named ?
@michaelschuh9953 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Pablo! Some of them were good as they are so I took them straight out of the camera and some of them are taken in RAW and then edited with the profile in LR. The Fuji JPEGs are already amazing but overall I would always go for RAW just to have the option, in the end, to may change the profile or edited more in-depth.

@michaelschuh9953 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Larry. I'm thinking about making a video about my editing workflow because so many asked about it. But mainly it's about hitting the right light and white balance, sorry if it sounds a bit vague 😅. Do you want to know the places I visit in detail? Because a rough itinerary is in the video description :)
@lstarkiller1 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelschuh9953 Yes, please do! And yes, if you have a list or something of the specific shrines, temples, etc. that you visited that would be awesome. Some of them like Fushimi Inari or Itsukushima Jinja are easy to spot, others less so. If you don't have this though no worries. I'm planning a trip to Japan this fall and would love to see some of the things you did. Where was the guy with the bamboo flute?
@michaelschuh9953 Жыл бұрын
@@lstarkiller1 So some recommendations I can give you in Kyoto are Ginkaku-ji and the samurai experience Kyoto. This was also the place where the guy played the bamboo flute ☺. Autumn is a fantastic time to visit Japan you will have some nice light 👍. In Tokyo, I would recommend spots like Akihabara or Asakusa. These are all pretty common places but its for a reason ☺. For small shrines, I would suggest the Fujiomurosengen Shrine near Mount Fuji. It's a really beautiful shrine that's not so crowded but very charming.

As someone who is planning a trip to Japan, this was very helpful! Maybe next time you can include the focal length of each photo. I am in a process of choosing which gear to take.. Which focal lengths did you find most useful? Do you think I can do it all with a 24-70 2.8 or worth going with a 24-70 f4 + 35mm 1.8? Any suggestions?
@michaelschuh99532 жыл бұрын
Hi Miguel, I'm happy that this video could help you. I was thinking about including the focal lengths but then I was too lazy 😅 sorry. But If you have some specific questions about a picture please tell me and I can give you the metadata 👍. In my opinion, a 24-70 2.8 is the most versatile lens you can have for travel and it will probably work 90% of the time. Also for Japan, it's a good choice because you can get nice indoor shots (12:33 shot at 24mm) with the wide angle and zoom in for some compression with the shrines (12:57 shot at 70mm) 👍. Other than that I think a telelens is never a bad idea. But for this trip, I just want to save some weight by taking the X100V for a lot of the time and this worked out great for me because I shoot at 35mm anyway most of the time. So it kind of depends on your style ☺.
@TwittyMc2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelschuh9953 so 2.8 would be enough for street photography in tokyo, for example?
@michaelschuh99532 жыл бұрын
@@TwittyMc in terms of available light for example when it's night, yes 2.8 is good. You may end up with an ISO of around 640 but this is still good in my opinion. If you want to know about background separation. That is totally subjective. For me, it would be enough ☺

nice work! all jpeg? did you color grade your videos?
@michaelschuh99532 жыл бұрын
Thank you :). No, I worked with the camera profiles in Lightroom. But I always try to get them close to the original jpeg, most of the time they are already great and just need some minor tweaks which is just more manageable with the RAW files. I filmed in Eterna and adjusted the black and white point, so the color grading was like 5 seconds 😅. I hope I could help you 🙌
