I love the photo of the mom and kids in the beginning. It is one I would have liked of myself with my five kids! Such a “day in the life moment” and I’m glad you captured it too. These Japan photo walks have been so relaxing to watch and I love that you are also going to regular neighborhoods like a local. I can’t wait to go back someday and experience more of Japan. Such a picturesque country!

I used to live around Tachikawa and I used to drive everywhere around the places. Now that I live in central Tokyo I kind of miss it, and watching this video made it realize the place is actually quite interesting and makes me want to go back for a visit. but this time to actually walk around, take it slow, and take pictures!

I get overexposed Portra 400/ Portra 160/ and Fuji Pro 400H vibes from this film stock, which I really really like. The greens pop like they do on Pro 400H and the other colors have that light and "airy" contrast while giving that creamy pastel look. I will say, the reds on this stock is what separates it from the rest. As I type this and continue watching, the more and more I like it. Great video my brother, as always. :) Definitely going to be picking up a few rolls of this.

7:05 same here. I've started to practise street photography for few months now and it takes me a huge amount of courage to photograph people from the front (i think i've taken only 12-15 pics of those). It makes it difficult especially because i'm an introvert and pretty anxious guy by nature. living in a small town doesn't help either. Here you can literally walk through the "city" part in 5 minutes 😅. People also keep staring at me when i'm at the center of town taking pictures, so i usually give up and take pictures of birds or people's backs instead. But anyway; these videos are really cool 👍🏻 Calm style narrating with great looking pictures 💚. I hope you continue making these videos in the future 🐢

Thanks for your video! Question tho, I am travelling to asia soon and I am going back and forth whether to bring lumix MFT or Canon full frame DSLR. (I am thinking of bringing 35mm and mamiya 645 as well) Which would you recommend?
@teocrawford
@teocrawford Жыл бұрын
Personally I would go with the smaller camera. The positives of the size and convenience outweigh the negatives in quality by far for me. I‘ve shooting so much more with my little Lumix simply because it‘s so easy to bring with me. I would never shoot as much if I only had my Sony A7iii with me👀🙌🏼

Honestly it‘s not that nice of a lens, but it was cheap and it works just fine. It‘s a Cosinon 35mm f/2.8. But I also have a Pentax 50mm f/1.7 which feels much nicer so if you can spend a little extra I‘m sure there‘s also a Pentax 35mm lens that‘ll probably be better than what I‘ve got👍🏼

On the "taking pictures of peoples' backs" comments: personally I do it because it leaves an air of mystery of the subject. Just as well, it kind of feels like you're doing whatever you're doing and you just so happen to look up and notice someone is there doing their own thing. You both exist and don't have to acknowledge each other, it's life in and of itself: when you're walking down the road and see the delivery person putting a package in the mail, you might pass by and never see their face, they might see you pass only seeing your back or they might not have noticed you were even there. I think Street Photography is whatever story you're wanting to tell and it doesn't matter how you tell it: if it's from behind the subjects as they look onto the landscape, or showing what they are seeing/ interacting with, then so be it.

Lovely shots, but I wonder if you got the mom's permission to photograph her kids and publish the photos on the internet? Maybe Japan is more tolerant but it's not something we'd do in the UK.
@teocrawford
@teocrawford Жыл бұрын
Ohhh shoot I totally forgot to think of that! I‘ve been thinking about this topic for a while actually because I have a couple photographs of kids rather close up which I do not feel comfortable just sharing on the internet without permission. I think I forgot about that in this case because it‘s not a close photo but a rather wide scene featuring them in almost a silhouetted manner. Would you completely refrain from sharing the photographs or do you think showing them with anonymity (blurred face or such) is alright? I‘d be curious to hear your thoughts🙏🏼
@petermcgowan2973
@petermcgowan2973 Жыл бұрын
@@teocrawford It might be country-specific, but in the UK the generally accepted philosophy is "don't take pictures of kids without the parents express permission". In the case of your photo the faces are clearly visible, I wouldn't say they're silhouetted particularly. It's a shame because otherwise it really is a very good photo, beautifully balanced, lovely colours.
