Sorry kid but the absolute worst advice you could give to any future rotary owner is to tell them to warm up their engine before driving by idling. That is a recipe for excessive carbon build-up. What you want is to heat up the combustion chamber as fast as possible. This is the only way to fully burn the mixture after a cold start. You have to understand that the enlongated combustion chamber takes a very long time to heat up. Plus you have a 9lb hunk of cast iron called a rotor in each housing that also takes a VERY long time to heat up. When these engines are cold, the engine needs more fuel to operate. When the ecu injects more fuel to start the engine, this excessive fuel will coat the rotor face and wont fully burn off. This is what causes the plugs to foul sooner than later because the wet apex seals are sweaping past the plug holes and contaminating the plugs. Ever notice how these engines seem to have a slight misfire during cold idle? Wet plugs are that reason. That wet contamination is what causes the notorious engine flooding from turning off a rotary engine with too cold of a combustion chamber shorty after a cold start. Flooding has nothing to do with water temps. Also, the state of tune will also be rich which dumps more fuel during warmup. This excessive fuel will start to create carbon deposits because the heavy rotor takes to long to heat up when its turning slowly at idle. Ideally what you wanna do is this. Start engine, wait for oil pressure to register then, slowly raise rpm to 2,500-3,000 rpm for about 10-15 seconds. This won't damage the bearings trust me. This will more quickly burn off the excessive fuel dumped in from the cold start and cleans the spark plugs because they are now being forced to rapid fire and generate more heat quickly. Now GO DRIVE THE CAR. There's no need to let it sit there and idle. Driving the car puts more load on the engine and makes it heat ip much faster. I've owned and rebuilt engines from all generations of rx7's (including the 20b in my fd) since 1991 so I have an extensive history with these engines.

Japanda Tuning Understand that alot of people doesn't tell me their background experience. You'd be suprised how clueless most people are who own these engines. They don't understand the science behind the combustion process inside these engines. Bad or good they will pass along what they heard and treat that info as gospel. Plus you have those who claim to be experts and pass along all sorts of advice and have never even opened up one of these engines. You do understand what causes carbon lock? I saw your warmup video. What you did in that video given how cold it was wasn't so bad given how cold it was as the oil needs time to flow however, under normal circumstances, that proceedure isn't necessary. Now I do agree with your shift points while cold.

Edward Razura-Perez Appreciate it! If you do the above procedure and have good compression and healthy plugs, I guarantee you will never flood a rotary engine doing that above cold start technique. All you need is about 10-15 of midrange idle before you can shut off the engine. When my fd had about 90,000 miles on its original engine, I purposely went out and tried to flood the engine by doing repeaded cold starts in 38° weather after the car sat up for 2 months. Engine fired up every time after I shut it off cold in a span of 5 mins. Building up that heat as quickly as possible is the key.

One think you did not mention is that these engines need to see red line a few times during every trip. @@nazmulhaque2998 do research first, most RX8s have a bad reputation not for the vehicle itself but for owners not knowing how to properly maintain them. A rotary engine needs to be treated very differently from a piston engine. An example is that redlining the engine regularly on a rotarty is strongly recommended, as well as mixing 2 stroke oil in with your fuel when you fuel it. The engines also burn oil by design so checking the oil regularly (every other fill up) is also necessary. There's more I could go on about but research is very much recommended. The single best suggestion for these cars is to make sure it has the newest starter motor, 2kW motor with 14 tooth gear. This is stock on newer models. The older years have slower starters which don't start as reliably on with engines. This is the single biggest issue with these cars and why they have bad reputations on starting, flooding, etc. Second, Mazda has long been putting in 20 weight oil in these cars. I don't know why they chose this, but fundamentally you want the thicker oil for heat handling and sheer resistance, both good for rotaries. Most aftermarket builders suggest 40 weight or higher. These thicker oils offer more protection and wear resistance. If you live in cold climates, you do have 0w40 (numerous brands) and 0w50 (Eneos) available for good cold temp viscosity. If you want to run a 60 weight oil, you need to go to 10w60. There is no 5w60 or 0w60 for cold weather. The oil change intervals don't need to be as short as the video suggests. Plus you don't need to watch the oil levels. The cars has a low level light that comes on at -1 qt. While on most cars, the oil light means low pressure. On the RX8, the oil light is simply low level. It has a separate pressure gauge. Mazda already assumes consumers will be lazy, so the light there is for the lazy folks. You will add 1 qt every 1000 miles. That's just standard use by the spray injectors for lubrication. My only other suggestion is to watch spark. The coils go out every 30k miles, and it's just a good time to plan to put in new plugs and cold every 2 years. The single biggest failure mode for these engines is a plugged cat that heats up the exhaust side and overheats the seal springs. Once you heat up a spring too much, it stops being a spring (the metal loses its springiness and softens). Your seal stops sealing well, and the engine runs crappy with compression loss. Things can go worse from here. Make sure ignition is always in good shape. If the car seems to behave poorly one day, pop off the left front tire and take a look at spark. Check all 4 plugs for spark and general wear. If one lacks spark, replace the coil. Replace plugs of they look worn. It's nice to just do everything together just so longevity of consistent for all.

Questions for you Rx8 owners: 1. Do you and CAN you use the Rx8 as you everyday car? 2. Is it possible to have one with a minimum wage job? (cause college) 3. How's maintenance? 4. And last but not least, I've heard many people say that when you start up an Rx8 you should rev the engine for a bit to keep it "healthy" or whatevs. Can anyone enlighten me on it?
@Mosquito33146 жыл бұрын
1. I use mine every day 2. It is not possible to have 1 with a minimum wage job, and here is why. Most of th rx8 you will find will not be as good of a shape as you think, aka things will need to be fixed. Im 24, but I work on cars as a hobby, I bought mine from a another guy my age. Suspension was shot, He grinded 2nd gear teaching himself to drive stick. Oil was dirty but wasnt low. Heater control unit was not working. OH, he also put spacers and tried to camber it more. The dum dum, put extra washers on the rear camber and toe adjustment bolts, aka my car currently wiggles and slides out immediately on any little bump or in the rain. Mind you I got a new tranny with low miles cheap, $300 , but did the job myself. New oil, new plugs, replaced all the broken sway bar linkages, new rotors and pads, and upgraded to coilovers, did it all myself. The last and current thing I am on , are those camber and toe bolts found in the rear control arms. This car is supposed to handle like a GOD, so if its not do a thorough investigation on the suspension. SO, I would say not, minimum wage, just skip this car, cause if you love it, you will need to buy the proper parts and fix her up properly PROPERLY is the key. 3.Maintenance, honestly after you got an rx8 in good condition, is not that bad. Just check your oil weekly, change it accordingly. Obviously it needs to be red lined here and there as to push out the carbon build up. It realy just like any other car, just that you need to be more aware and the checking is more of a habit rather than something you can forget about. 4. For this one, rotary engines like to be in a good temp range. meaning they like to be warm. When you first turn one on, the engine is cold, so by design they do not burn efficiently on start up. Because of this you get excess fuel at startup in the engine, plus the seals and the rotors are not heated so they have not expanded properly to seal off the other chambers. So, to avoid flooding the engine with excess fuel, it is recommended you turn it on, and rev it under 3k rpm , between 2k. This simulates the car driving at low rpm to get the engine components warmed up. When you look at the dash of an Rx8, on the temp gauge for hot and cold, there are 2 needles on the cold side that are bigger, generally you have to wait till the main red needle passes those 2 larger white indicators to then turn off the car if you desire to do that.. For example, lets say you park on the street. You turn it on, to move it and then go to turn it off without letting it warm up, well your probably just flooded it or it will flood soon , but that will the owners fault , not the cars. so when you ever hear someone say oh these cars suck or anything like that for any car. It is 100% that the person is not mechanically inclined and is not educated enough on the vehicle to properly take care of it. And the funny part is, i know a bunch of people who are not good mechanically but just educate themselves on their car and always take care of it well, hence kudos cause thats great. If your heart is set on it, its your dream, then go for it. No reason to live with regrets. Just be ready to do some DIY, or save cash to fix her up. but in my opinion, for min wage, open your sport car thoughts and look into something that requires less maintenance. 1 350z -> issue is everyone got em, and their probably fast and furiostified 2 integra -> large fan base, hard to get one, but pepy and fun 3 Older sports cars, 3000gt, mr2 , celica, 4. eclipse 2nd & 3rd gen -> good examples are extremely hard to find but worth it. (turbo , the EVO engine 4g63 is what matters here lol ) 5. s2000 -> if you got that cash , deff get one, soo nice , 6. bmw z4 -> a 03 to 07 are s2k priced if not cheaper, super fun , own 1, and look very exotic. Its a beemer so it will get expensive to fix. 7. Buy a new car, toyota 86, or mazda mx-5 , both super fun and peppy, and are literally just modern classics. 8. miata, old , super small which is perfect for parking, parts are cheap. And can be modified to run stupid fast. but remember you will get shit cause its so small but remember who the fuck cares, cause its your car, and if it makes you happy , and you have a smile on your face then thats all that matters. Regardless of how scraping low its or how retarded your camber is. Thats the whole point , your car, your looks, your design, make it yours, and be happy. Let hatters hate, Just make sure you got some extra juice to let them choke on the dust bubbles you make. That goes really well with some large subwoofers to shake them into some sense

I use to have this car it was my 3rd Race car, 1. I used this as a Daily it's a Terrible idea which is the main reason why this car failed at consumer market. This car gets terrible Gas Mileage 10-15 in the city etc and it only uses Premium if you don't overtime it will destroy the motor. Performance Parts for this car are overpriced and somewhat rare. 2. Yes you can but not recommended car is cheap but labor and parts are expensive. Compare this to a Civic where it's expensive for it being old but parts are dirt cheap and everywhere. You need to find a mechanic friend if not everywhere you go they will try to rip you off because they think you have money cause car looks fancy. 3. When you do oil changes it takes a certain kind of oil forgot what is it is, Synthetic Oil is actually bad for it I forgot why. The Engine itself is fine I had 165K miles on it and never had engine failure. I had nonstop Electronic problems for example my Air Mass Flow Sensor was dirty and I couldn't go past 3 RPMS everyone thought bad compression motor etc but luckily my friend figured it out which is why you need a mechanic friend. Fixing this car is expensive example when I had to switch my clutch I had to buy a Counter Weight which costs like 300 bux for some tiny piece of metal. The Radiator is tilted or something like just like a corvette or something just to give you an idea about how Mazda tried to design the car. 4. When you COLD START the car DO NOT TURN IT OFF UNTIL IT IS FULLY WARMED UP if you do the engine will FLOOD this happened to me once and everyone again thought it was a blown motor or bad compression etc luckily once again my friend figured it out. We had to remove the spark plugs and keep cranking the engine until all this oil came out of the spark plug holes then I had to clean everything buy new spark plugs and another oil change to make it start again. This is the main reason why this car failed all this little BS people dealt with and thought it was a blown motor but in fact it was either bad electronics or flooded engine. Mazda replaced so many engines most of which were fine but no one knew. Mazda mechanics also are not knowledgeable about this car at least in my area. I can write a bad experience with them in another post if anyone cares. Conclusion: This car Stock handles better than any Honda (minus S2k or NSX) with coilovers Yes it's true even the Integra Type R is Garbage compared to this car. In terms of handling this car is right behind the S2000. When you race in the mountains this car has almost No Sway and going 100 MPH feels like 65 MPH. Underbody, weight distribution, just everything this is an amazing race car. The engine is tiny and a skilled mechanic could easily remove it by himself and work on it at a table in his garage. You can even add another rotary engine this car has a lot of potential if you have time and money. The gears felt slow but you redline at 9 so your hands are always on the wheel. Although the G35, 350, S2K are a little better than this car it will kill any car like a Civic, Integra, Miata, Corolla S, 240 etc. Basically this car is a really good Race Car but terrible daily, it's better as 2nd car you use on the weekends.

So, I had a 1999 Toyota Camry (L4, Auto) as my first car, and then I got my RX-8 about 2 and a half years ago. I've since put 14k miles on the car, and probably just as much money LOL... I've turned it from bone stock to somewhat acceptable visuals and performance. It was also my first manual car, so that was an interesting experience. I'm also a full-time student, working part time during the year, and full-time in the summer. It will be a challenge for anyone who doesn't have a full-time job year round, because of potential things that could go wrong, but it's a fun car, and only meant for those that have a love and passion for it.

@Saboda536 жыл бұрын
Just go to the first ‘click’ on the light switch - that turns on the “parking lights,” i.e. all the lights except headlights and fog lights. (They’re called “parking lights” because if you park on the side of the road and want your car NOT to be invisible, others can still see it. Obviously, headlights aren’t necessary in that situation.)

It isn't a must to pre mix with 2 stroke on standard engines. You get enough lubrication from the oil pump. PZ versions have two pumps. With a standard engine I'd only pre mix if you have removed the cat. It will reduce the smell off petrol, as they run very rich

Around $6000 is a good price to look for low miles. The biggest thing when looking to buy one is looking for previous owners who took care of their car (regular oil changes). It takes regular maintenance but it is definitely worth it.
