At 3:31 why can’t someone subtract 3 from each side and then set to zero. And when y:0, the x intercepts would be the answers. Factor the equation y: 4x^2 - 4x - 2 When the factors are found set them to zero and solve for x. Sometimes there is more than one answer. Test the answers to tell if some answers are non viable. If there are multiple answers that is ok. Another solution is to put the equation ( once set to zero) in a graphing calculator and graph it. And look at the x-intercepts it would be obvious. These x-intercepts would be the factor solutions.

would it not be easier: ((sqrt3+1)/2)^2 four times, then multiply them and by the original bracket. I think it has less steps in this case.

It is not more difficult that directly calculating x^9 from x.

Once it is identified as( sqrt3+1)/2, Rest is routine.
