Matt’s dad here. Lifetime martial artist, very fortunate to have learned to see and incorporate principles I have learned. But the subtleties of choice of foot position are going to get some intense review. One hindrance I have though is if I am close enough to step on a foot, I believe, rightly or wrongly, that a continuing advance can result in attaining the kobudo objective of crushing the enemy, dropping them to the mat. But I can also envision the possibility that there may be situations where a foot trap is necessary or highly advantageous. Your channel always causes me to think and study. It can be distracting at times but I believe it is necessary especially as one must learn to adapt their art to their changing body. In today’s world age is treated as a weakness rather than something to respect. Besides continuing attempts at improving my art are a habit by now. You are my #1 martial arts channel to watch. You are preserving a record of some amazing martial arts. Thank you.

Notice its timing to close the distance and get the angle, the sweep is just the finish. Great training drill!

at my dojo, we have a question regarding the wording (yeah, I know it's only to get the job done) but in Japan is there any difference between Okuri Ashi Harai and Okuri Ashi Barai? an AI was able to find something about the direction of Uke (forward vs side stepping). Thanks in advance!
