Thank you Fotis 🙏 for another interesting and informative video about pine grafting. Maybe it is time to create a grafting playlist. 😉 Good luck with these grafts. I can’t wait for the update video. Until then I will check your previous videos with your grafting successes (there is at least one with grafting results if I remember correctly!).

Assume I want to try this on my black pine with lower branches thanks for sharing
@ArkefthosBonsai2 ай бұрын
Definitely you can! I've done this on this black pine kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXK4hYZqoqyheqMsi=cq1-_itTaVY6IPD9 In the end of the video you will see a progress montage since 2015. In the first image in 2015, there are no lower branches. The lower branch on the left was grafted like that and the branch above it (back and to the right), was approach grafted. Good luck!

Which time you make these graftings? Are you covered with plastic bag or tape the grafted needles?
@ArkefthosBonsai2 ай бұрын
8th of September. These are part of my summer grafting. All the grafts go into a humidity chamber, where humidity stays 95% and higher (usually) and artificial lights on for 14 to 15 hours a day. Temperatures are around 20C (68 - 74F). Success rate in summer grafting is quite good, higher than 80%. Cheers!
@borkobonsai2 ай бұрын
Thanks, how long they stay in this humidity chamber?
@ArkefthosBonsai2 ай бұрын
@borkobonsai for summer grafts is 4 to 6 weeks max. Then they need to come out and acclimate to winter temperatures before they get too low, like freezing or lower. They are faster than winter grafts. With summer grafts you'll know within 2 weeks if it is succesfull or not. They tend to lose color relatively fast. But success rate is high. Cheers!

at 4:30 i see that you say "if you can't keep humidity level close to 100% 24/7 with bright light close to full sun for 13-15h day -> keep few needles on the scion" personally i have tried few scions of senjumaru but failed badly, this spring i failed 2 air layers on mugo (few mm under the graft point of senjumaru done by an expert) so i just have a little mugo with a graft of senjumaru. i am afraid to try to use it for grafts again, i also had bad luck because when i air layered temperature was rising, then suddenly cold and storm ruined both.
@ArkefthosBonsai2 ай бұрын
Yes, better have less needles on the scion when you can't have ideal temperature and humidity for 4 weeks. I said that because watching the video will be left with the view that leaving many needles on is good. It is, but in context. This is my first try on grafting this DNA, but my success with kotobuki is excellent, so I'm optimistic. I'll keep you updated on the results, plus I will have some numbers and adjust in January. Good luck with your one graft! You will be able to try again in a couple of years!
