Best looking boxwood bonsai I've seen. Some other channels, their boxwood looked like they over trimmed

Thank you! Some people over trimmed their boxwood thinking it might grow more branches, but in my experience, it will take so many years to wait if you do that. I just let mine grow and develop there

My boxwood tree the leaves are drying what can I do or what fertilizer can I use to help it yeh leaves get back green and healthy?
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Hello, if your trees are experiencing weakness , do not fertilize. Replace it in a bright and shaded area, no sun for now. Make sure it’s get the water it needs. Cut or trim all the dry leaves. It’s still growth season, it will still produce new set of leaves. Now, if it doesn’t, that means it’s sick from something, but it rarely happens. Believe me, if the plant is dying, there’s nothing we can do. I lost a lot of trees before too.

Also worth mentioning i lost one last year to root rot ._. Thats why i ask about the soil
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Hello, wait a little bit more to repot, like early spring. It’s important fir bonsai to use bonsai soil. Do some mixing. Clay, lava rocks and pumice. You can find them in local nurseries.

I just acquired a large old boxwood and I’m nervous to make any moves. It needs repotted but new growth has popped in my greenhouse here in Ohio. I never let it dry out last year and kept it in full sun. Good? Thanks! Chris
@lakeelsinorebonsai12032 жыл бұрын
That good! Yeah, it’s the time of the year to repot. But if you said there’s some growth, you can wait for a few weeks. But technically you can repot and prune now

That’s a beautiful specimen. They’re slow growing. Yours must be quite old. Thanks
@lakeelsinorebonsai12034 жыл бұрын
Thank you Matt! I think so. I have them for a few years. They don’t respond well with wiring, it has to stay for a longer time. Better with guy wiring.

How did you make the trunk so thick
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Hi, I got it like that. It used to be a garden tree that I made to bonsai.

I accidentally snapped a bit of one of the main branches while wiring it but part of the snapped area is still connected and I dont want to prune the whole branch, what is the best way for it to heal fast
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
What I do when I snapped a branch, as long as it is still connected, I wrapped it with plastic wrap and taped it and wired it to make it stronger, and after months and years of healing they are well connected again and looks like nothing has happened.

So I bought a boxwood today from a nursery it’s bigger it cost $45 and it’s about 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall and the trunk thickness is about as half the diameter as you can make a circle with your index finger and thumb. So my question is I see that they can go through some massive reduction, do you think it’s OK for me to put this into a bonsai container that is 9 inches left to right and 6 inches front to back?
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave, Yes, you can definitely make it into bonsai and can put it in a bonsai pot. But it will be safer if you can do it in late winter or early spring. Although Japanese boxwood is a very strong tree material, it’s not a very good time to do it now.
@daver96433 жыл бұрын
@@lakeelsinorebonsai1203 Well my question was if you think my container part is too small. But so a lot of people tell me this can be heavy pruned at this time of year. It’s all about whether enough it will heal before its first frost in so I can always keep it indoors part time to make up for the cold weather and give them more time to heal
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, definitely can do that. As long as you have the time to do the moving indoors when it’s frosting. Because of my experience, although research says you can do some work during fall, I have lost so many trees with that, from then I learned to be very careful. So far I haven’t lost any tree since then. Pruning have no problem, but repotting that’s what Im very careful about.

If I prune a branch back to where there are no leaves, it will die right?
@lakeelsinorebonsai12033 жыл бұрын
Yea, for most trees. So better be safe. Although some trees are ok, not sure about the boxwoods
