That looks Awesome. Recently got into Bonsai's. I have about 5 right now but just got a Boxwood and glad I watched your Video. The only thing is the trunk on mine is thin and tall. Probably 18 inches so should I keep it in a small pot. Not to many branches coming out from bottom. Just the top and a V shape so trying to figure out the best way to shape it b4 I ruin it. Thanks

+SMS CUSTOMS Do a lot of bonsai. Get as many trees as possible and practice, practice, practice. Store your bonsai in garage or build/dig a protective enclosure for them. Sticking a tree into the ground for even a few seasons can do wonders. Don't be afraid to take drastic cuts. Hope this helps.

I have been watching you and others who do bonsai in Southern California, and Florida where it is warm..relatively, all year. I have had bonsai die..freeze to death outdoors. Often times temperatures, here in Utah, drop as much as 20 below zero. Do you have any suggestions of a good bonsai to buy for these cold temps..I have Black pine,Whiten pine etc...Is there any others. BTW you are awesome.

Black Hills Spruce, Norway Spruce, Alberta Spruce, Siberian Elm, Amur Maple, Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Aspen, are all cold adapted trees from northern climates which work well for bonsai, and should be available in your area. I have seen Hedge Maple (Acer Campestre) in Oregon, I do not know if it will be hardy enough where you are. Cryptomeria and Larch should work, as well as Mugho Pine (Swiss Mountain Pine). You may be able to collect Rocky Mountain Juniper from the wild somewhere in your area. If not, try Prostrata Juniper, San Jose Juniper, and Shimpaku Juniper, all of which are hardy to subfreezing temperatures if you take the necessary precautions. And in winter, pull them into an unheated garage, or carport, or pull them close to the walls of the house, or tent them up under the bonsai benches.

No apples. All the apple trees you can get in a nursery here have been grafted, which means you have an ugly scar near the base that has to deal with. About the only trees we have from that family that do well as bonsai in Southern California are the ornamental pear trees. I have one of those.
